[quote author=“paypalme”][quote author=“socksgov”]people say they need guns for protection but if there were no guns you wouldnt need one to protect yourself from someone with one

Maybe protect yourself from someone with a weapon?

you completely misunderstood what you quoted. it says “IF THERE WERE NO GUNS you wouldnt need one to prorect yourself from someone with one”.  i know there are other weapons people may be wielding, but you dont need a gun to protect yourself from someone with a knife.

as for hunting, why do you need to kill the animals? there are supermarkets in the most remote parts of the us.  you do not need to eat the animals you kill.  what, then, is the point of hunting?

guns should be for the military and for swat teams only.

I can’t believe people have the rights to bare arms in this country.  Then we should execute anyone we find with them.  :|

I don’t get it either. Guns only hurt, they serve no other purpose.

Hey! Maybe I want to have bare arms.. It makes them silky and smooth. (I don’t really shave my arms)

But if you mean Bear arms, then I have to agree.  In times like these, there are more humane ways to control a situation that has gotten out of hand.  Tazers, stun guns, gas, etc…  Guns only add to the violence that already terrorizes this country.

Maybe that’s why people want to “bear” arms.  But man, it’s not like we need to hunt for food anymore.  :|

Has anyone seen “Bowling for Columbine”? If you haven’t heard about it, it’s a documentary about the US affinity for guns.

The right to bear arms has no meaning today. It was meant at a time when the Yanks were rebelling against the Brits during the revolution. It’s an outdated right, and it should be taken away.

I can not believe that I am hearing this crap!!

Obviously none of you have ever hunted, or sport shot or by the sounds of it ever left the city!

Guns are a Constitutional right, provided by the founders of this country.  To say that they should be outlaw is just as stupid as saying that women should not be voting.

Guns do not hurt people, people hurt people.

Assault weapons…HA.  An assault weapon is fully automatic and the only people that can own them must has a federal weapons license.  Hell, I know people that hunt dear with AK-47s.  My .22 has four of the thing outlawed in the now defunct (thank God) assault weapons law…folding stock, pistol grip, 30 round mags and flash suppressor.  Yeah, that is a real assault weapon…a .22.

Well, those same founding fathers thought that women did NOT have the right to vote & that took how many years to overturn?  What makes them so correct with the gun issue as well?  And anyways, it reads “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”  I completely agree with Andreux’s comment.  It needs to be changed because it’s outdated and people take advantage of it.  All this Anit-terrorism BS when “anyone” can just buy a gun on our own soil and blow people’s heads off.  It shouldn’t have to take something that drastic for changes to be made.

F*ck hunting, I’d rather know that I’m safe.  And stop killing our animals for sport plz.

With a thought process like that, you will soon be cutting into a steak with a plastic butter knife.

Once the precedence is set, then liberals will just go for the next “dangerous” thing on the list….which in my book would be knives.

Or better yet, maybe we should outlaw cars.  They kill far more people every day than do guns.  When you cross the street, do you look both ways for people with guns?  Just something to think about…

I tried finding something that had a global comparison and this was the best i fcould find for now.  It’s from 1996, but it helps:

“Whenever the U.S. murder rate is compared with that of other countries, as it often is, the figures reveal a far greater frequency of gun-related deaths in the U.S. than elsewhere. In 1996, for instance, 30 people were killed with handguns in Great Britain, 106 in Canada and 211 in Germany. In the U.S., 9,390 died this way. In Japan,15.”

From: http://www.jointogether.org/gv/issues/problem/global

I’m not too sure about the acuracy of those figures, but if someone can find something more up-to-date please post it.

totally agree, i dont think anyone anywhere is going to be forming a militia which was why they allowed guns.

You are right, the sky is green.  Thanks for pointing that out to me.  I read some of you posts in “So Bush Won” and learned a lot about you.  i learned that this is a losing battle.

But you did do on thing for me…you reminded me why I am a Republican.

Have fun in Canada.  Oh, by the way, guns are legal there too.

ya know it’s funny.  it doesn’t look like you’re hearing us out and understanding either.  don’t put us down for having strong views as well.  the least you could do was find information regarding it other than “oh we need to hunt and shoot for sport, we we all need to own guns”.  at least i tried to find information to help you understand our argument.  but whatever, you are right, the sky is red.

Sorry, I apologies, that was uncalled for…but it sure was fun.

I have heard all of the facts and figures and the same arguments over and over.

The real question is, what makes you think that you have the right to legislate whether or not I can own a gun?  I am just using the same argument that pro-choice people use for defending abortion.  What makes you think that your view is so right, that the government should take away my view.

You live in New York, so you really have no need for guns, except possible personal protection.  I live in Wisconsin, I have hunted since I was 7 (I am 32 now) and where I grew up, we would walk to 2 feet out of the front door and be shooting.  I have a use for guns, they have been a major part of my life for years.

In a city, why would you have a gun, but a huge percentage of this country is rural and enjoys hunting or shooting.  What makes the city folks so high and mighty to tell us that we can’t have guns?

It is the truth.  Actually it is a good deer round.  But it does get the game wardens a bit squirrelly, especially with the 30 round magazine…with only 5 rounds in it.
