[quote author=“jbeana”]Did you read the article on CNN about that 11 year-old (i think) who killed his father for beating him for getting bad grades?  Now THAT’S scary.

It’s a tragedy, but leaving firearms and ammunition where the son had access turned out to be a fatal blunder for them…  :o

I agree, I wouldn’t beat my kids, even though I don’t have any.

I’ve only had to spank my 10 year old a few times, but the threat of a whoopin’ helps to keep her behaving.  These parents with their out of control kids, counting to 3 and having “time out” make me sick.  Kids need discipline and boundaries, and sometimes violence does solve problems!  I don’t personally believe a lot of stuff in the bible, but I believe there is some wisdom in there.  And it say “spoil the rod, hate the child” or something to that effect.

Three second time outs, lol. My parents were a little harsher than that. Though I did get spanked, some, not lots and my parents regret it, I would be put in my room for hours with like food and stuff and not allowed to talk to friends or watch TV or do anything fun, **** that sucked.

That would be child abuse.  And child abuse is illegal.  So yes.

Spanking?  Please tell me you’re not talking about spanking…

When I was little my parents spanked me rarely. They mostly gave me time outs where I had to face the corner for 30 minutes. For a little kid, 30 seems like forever so it worked pretty well. If I did something really bad like hit one of my sisters my dad would lift me up off of the ground by my arms and push me up against the wall and say, “if you want to hit someone, come hit me and we’ll see how it ends up.” Suffice it to say, that scared the crap out of me. The threat was always there but my parents never hurt me or my sisters.  If and when I have kids, they’ll get a similar treatment.

I got spanked, I learned my lesson, and Im a better person cuz of it. Of course there are limits to spanking, such as don’t beat your child into submission. just enough to get the point across. many kids now need a good whoopin, keep’em in line. I was never grounded, which was nice. The spankin was enough to keep me in line. Some say spanking makes kids fear their rents…I never feared my rents, I feared the punishment. Kids mind as well learn true punishment before heading out to teh real world… you act up there, you get sent to jail, and then you’ll be getting a whole nuther level of spanking, from bubba in cell block C.

I agree about the timeout thing, does that really do anything? go ahead send me to my room, i’ll go play video games or watch tv. now you put me in a corner and make me watch barney for 5 hours straight, that’s punishment there.

I’m afraid to have kids because I think I won’t be able to discipline them correctly.  Even non-spanking discipline, like “taking away priviledges” would get abusive, knowing my lack of patience.
