Let’s hear your opinions! I think Edwards was in the lead for the most part…but it was kinda even…

This was a hard debate to watch, namely because it was so damn boring. With them sitting down, there wasn’t much in terms of mannerisms besides Cheney rubbing his hands and Edwards pulling the “Bill Clinton” with his thumb pointing. The entire debate was spent with them saying, “now the vice president/the senator has gotten it completely wrong.” The whole thing was mud-slinging back and forth. Honestly, Edwards didn’t do half the job I thought he would. He looked thrown off and contained because he had to sit down. Cheney looked relatively calm and gave surprisingly/albeit sometimes heinously false, concise answers.
There were at least 10 times when Edwards could have countered to Cheney’s blatant falsifications, like Cheney saying he never thought there was a connection between Saddam and 9/11, but he didn’t. Granted I disagreed with most of everything Cheney said, but I think he won the debate. Don’t get me wrong, this was no significant victory like the Kerry victory over Bush was, but I think he edged out Edwards. It was a disappointing debate in both style and content. I’m glad there’s only one of those, and I think my fellow democrats would aggree.
This article more or less clarifies what I’ve stated above:

I think it was a draw. Cheney seemed real nasty.

Now that I think about it…It was kind of a draw…There was no clear winner like in the Presidential debate…The debate felt like it went nowhere…haha

I loved the part when Cheney told Edwards thanks for his comments on his daughter, and just ended his response.
(Edwards said that she was a lesbian).

I thought that was a smart choice by Cheney. Acknowledging Edwards kind words and than stopping. This is essentially due to the fact that Cheney isn’t allowed to speak what he thinks on the subject because Georgie doesn’t want gays to marry. Also, I don’t think gay marriage is really an issue this election year. States have consistently and overwhelmingly denied gay marriage, even in supposed forward moving states like California and Washington. It’s unfortunate because I believe gay and lesbian couples deserve the same legal rights as “normal” couples but I don’t think it’s a major issue this year.

I think Cheney may have been more decisive, but Edwards had more appeal to me. Cheney was decisive, but he got several facts wrong, including the statement that “The first time I ever met John Edwards was when he walked onstage tonight.” That was entirely false. I think Cheney came across as more calm and collected, but Edwards made several very good points. As far as Cheney’s former company Halliburton, you’ll notice that when Edwards attacked Halliburton, Cheney didn’t deny anything. He simply turned it around and said “The reason the Senator brought up Halliburton is to hide his own record.” Granted, that’s a ridiculous statement, but Cheney did a good job of dodging the question. When watching a debate, listen to ALL the accusations, and you’ll be surprised how many of them go unanswered. Why do they go unanswered? Because they are true.

That is so true! It’s so terrible. 😢 I kept turning to my wife and saying: “Ooh! You see how he didn’t get back to that question?!”

The best example was when Edwards said that the current administration hasn’t even complied a unified terroist watch list and Cheney had nothing to say. He got totally burned. Edwards needed to do more of that, just drive in the facts and pick out Cheney’s mistakes. If he had just drilled the problems with Iraq and domestic policies it might have sounded redundant but it would have stuck better.

Overall, I think we can all agree that Cheney did a way better job than Bush did. He was calm, composed, coherent, and articulate.
Might I also add that Edwards is a fine-lookin’ 50 year-old man. 😛

Well, I think the debate was a draw. Both Edwards and Cheney had good come backs on each other and good points. I was watching the local news, and they were comparing Dick Cheney to Darth Vader and John Edwards to Robin from batman….ROFL.
The Cheney + Vader comparison is just great. Cheney for president! /cough :D
Edit: Forgot to add another thing, you guys can download the full audio of the debate from last week’s presidential to the vice presidential debate last night all from iTunes. They’re all free, plus you can also download audio from the republic convention, when Arnold talks, etc etc. All in iTunes and free, kick ass!

Seriously! The first time I saw Edwards I thought he was 36 max. He has that same JFK charisma too. How can anyone not like him?

Achewood is one of the best webcomics ever. Also see goats.com for a recent story about George Bush being evil. You have to begin the current story arch to see the evil things Bush does. Good times.

i wish edwards was more assertive in his responses. both men refused to answer the questions given to them. I’d have to say they both did badly, but Edwards was more likable than the generically sinister, sly republican.
