Yeah, I hate the mac store in the malls in omaha. The people are snobbish as hell. It differs where ever you go I guess.

I was in the Apple store with some friends today to get an iSkin for my free iPod. I wanted to let them hear some music on it, so I asked some lady that worked there if I could hook it up to a computer and play music. She didn’t know, and said I should try it. So I plug in my iPod, and try to use a Mac (my first time without an experienced Mac user) and iTunes doesn’t see my iPod. So I looked around a bit in the hard drive to see what I could find. When I found the iTunes folder, thinking something useful might be there, some stupid man who worked there walked up and said “are you doing what I think you’re doing?” and ripped my iPod from the dock. I guess he thought I was stealing the music on the computer. He then kicked me and my friends out of the store. When I went home, I tried to update my iPod with a new CD I “acquired” and my firmware was broken because it said “do not disconnect” when he took it out. I had to use iPod updater to restore it to original settings and then put all my music back on. Then we went to the Bose store and the guy was like “hey, if you want one of these systems real cheap, come early tomorrow morning round back”. So what’s my point? Bose stores pwn Apple stores.

I’m not getting your story. You were trying to buy speakers…? Or a computer…? You’re not very clear.

My first sentence was that I was trying to get an iSkin. However they were not in stock. And there was a batard working there. Then I just went to the Bose place randomly becasue it’s in the same mall and a really awesome guy worked there. I was just pissed cos the damn Apple guy temporarily broke my iPod. I agree it’s a pointless story now that I look at it.

why would you even bother connecting your ipod, which I’m assuming is PC formatted, to a mac? why didn’t you just use one of the ipods in the store to show your friends rather than yours?

I’ve never gone in an Apple store because it’s populated by pretentious Abercrombie and Fitch wearing assholes. The people working in there looked like they were only 18; as though they know what they’re even doing. Also, the store seems incredibly sparse in terms of products, especially software. You should go in and ask them what games they have and if they say Warcraft III 50 times you get to kick them in the junk.

well, in boca raton fl its a crappy store my friend pretty much dragged me into (i wanted to get my iskin at a cheaper place) where really crappy employees try to sell you overpriced computers that do a very small percentage of what a far cheaper pc can do. They also sell ipods but if you try to use them they break them. Oh and they have the power adapter for $50. Next door in Radio Shack you could get an adapter for about $8.

Next door at Radioshack it isn’t the same power adapter. It is not the “official” power adapter. It is very helpful. I could definatly see the store employee thinking you were trying to steal something. On a mac a lot of applications could just be dragged onto your iPod, and Apple Stores have some very expensives apps installed on their comp. The Apple Store has enough stuff, plenty of games, and helpful employees.

Yeah where I am, the people are pretty cool there too, and the Abercrombie and Fitch people are scared of computers.
PCs still dominate… in my life anyway.

Where I live we have 2 Apple stores in 2 different malls. I enjoy checking them out and playing with all the “toys.” And honestly I like how the store looks, its just simple and the design is actually thought out. Yeah, they dont have much software but that’s not the point of the store. The point is the apple hardware and the software is just a small addition. They have always treated me well.

yeah i guess it did look like i was stealing stuff. but i even told him i didnt know what i was doing and was trying to play my own music and hes like “sure ya dont…” and then he kicked me out. instead of like helping me or saying its not possible or something. i guess mall employees are just really suspicious of teenagers. Also my frined put linux on his ipod and was like showing it to the employees and they were probably thinking “get a life, leave our store” o and the power adapter was different looking, of course (no big apple on the side) but it was a firewire->wtv voltage. i asked the guy and he said it was made for ipods.

Yes but official is always more expensive, if you go to any other store selling official Apple Power Adapters they will all be the same price. 😊

My first Apple store experience was a few days ago. I went in looking for a case for my free iPod and was blown away at how SMALL the rack of available software was, and how EXPENSIVE too!. The employees were pretty snooty and made me wait about 10 minutes before they would wait on me. The store is just like everything else Apple does - more style than substance. I like my iPod, but 50 bucks for a replacement AC adapter (without the cable)? Cmon, that is gouging of the worst sort… N(

I guess all Apple stores are not created equal because both of my apple stores have about 4 aisles of software. Oh and macs look nice, don’t crash and are virus-free.

The “virus-free” nature of OSX has more to do with it’s obscurity than it does with any perceived superiority. Virus writers want to hit as many people as possible, therefore they aren’t going to fool with a niche platform used by less than 3% of the populace.

1. The point is that there are no virus’s not the reason.
2. It is not as easy to write a virus for.

I acknowledged the fact that they look nice, i just like my pc more cos its got neon lights and it gives me the satisfaction of having built it myself. if you want crashless virus-free computing on a pc, you can just use linux which has way more software than the mac, plus emulation software that can run windows and even osx pretty well. and my apple store doesnt even have aisles its just an average sized mall store with about 15 computers, some gadgets (ipods), and a spinning shelf thing of ipod accesories ($40 up).

Cool you built your pc, me too. I also have that same satisfaction as well as the satisfaction of using the best OS ever when I switch over to my mac running OSX. I’m no die-hard mac junkie and in fact never realized how great they were till I got one. Also just because you don’t see the software at the Mac store doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. The mac has tons of titles available, though not nearly as many as windows of course, but from my experince trying out a some new Mac program has been way more pleasant than trying out different pc programs. Pc’s may have more software but with that comes more crap software. And for Linux the software is still very limited, while emulating os’s is never the same.
and to be quite honest, sounds like your Apple store just sucks.
