It’s always been my opinion, since I was a kid, that ‘America the Beautiful’ seemed like a better song for our national anthem. It rouses a sense of natural peace, prosperity, and beauty in the country rather than views of the horribly pointless war of 1812 set to the tune of a drinking song. I personally think Canada has a much better national anthem than the US as it inspires what I believe ‘America the Beautiful’ very well could.

This in no means implies that we ever could change it seeing as how it’s tradition and the reforms would take forever to install. I’m simply curious if anyone else thought about it.

To learn a little more about our National Anthem, read this from Wikipedia (neat facts):

And yes I realize “America the Beautiful” is full of references to God and is even set to a Christian Hymn, but as an atheist I can tell you that it’s still a better representation of our country.

While, as a Christian and a Catholic, I have no problem with references to God (nor do I particularly have any problems with Yahweh, Allah, Buddha, Muhammed… whatever, I really don’t care), I can definitely tell you there are some ****faces out there who would have a problem with it.

If they didn’t, there wouldn’t be a Supreme Court battle over the use of “under God” in our pledge, which if you think about it, really doesn’t hurt anyone. I could argue the opposite point, saying that this guy is intolerant of religion. If it bothers you, just ignore it!

Anyway, back to my original point. There are some people who would make it their business to oppose this based on the God references, and those people should be shipped En Masse to the moon.

Yeah, it’s a toss up really between Thundercats and Transformers but I thought Thundercats had a bit more “umph” to it. I little pizzazz.

No contest - the Star Spangled Banner is a keeper.  Those words written by Francis Scott Key during the battle for Baltimore (War of 1812) are powerful, and it would be a shame to switch.  Although, now that I think about it the tune for the Star Spangled Banner is actually based on an old English drinking song.  :o
