I bring my ipod through the xray machines every morning going into work.
Nothings happened so far.

If you happen to take film with you (if you still use a SLR film camera), don’t put 800 speed film through the x-ray.  It will get ruined.

Yeah, emulsion film gets messed up by x-rays.
Hard drives on the other hand are magnetic devices.
As such they are not affected by x-rays.

If it was real strong it might do something.
Ever placed a normal magnet next to a floppy disc?  Buh-bye data.
Same thing would happen if you could get a strong enough magnetic field next to a hard drive.  Floppies are covered in plastic, hard drive usually have metal casings.  The metal casing provides more protection from such things.
I wouldn’t recommend trying it, but doing so would provide us with a real world test.
