Quoting an eons old story book articulates your point miserably.

You would rather me write my own arguments?  :|  Like I’m God, or something.  You referencing the Bible as merely “a story book” speaks volumes of your ignorance.

[quote author=“AndruGearLive”]I thought about starting a religion board here.

But as a hardcore bible guy…you should know that the Bible doesnt say anything about banishing people to Hell forever. Not by a long shot.  😉

Matthew 13

40"As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.

Matthew 10
28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Of course God is a loving God and doesn’t want you to go there.  But you yourself should know that there are qualifications beyond what most people think: “If i just live a good life, then…”

Wow, starting a Religion thread? What about a Politics thread? These topics are so touchy for me :( I’m always afraid I’m gonna get bashed by someone when it comes to these two. LOL But I am deist, if any of you know what that is 😛

Oh, I know Hell is real, not denying that at all. I am still at work with no Bible in front of me, but take a look at what you quoted.

What happens to the tares when they are burned in the first one?

The second one mentions destroying both body and soul.

Looking elsewhere, it speaks of those who follow Christ getting eternal life, but those that dont will die (wages of sin, etc.)

Now - if you follow Christ, that equals eternal life. That is the ONLY WAY to have an eternal life. Not an eternal GOOD life, just eternal life period. If NOT, then you are burned up like the tares, and destroyed. You do not have an eternal BAD life where you burn forever.

If you study the original greek, hebrew, and aramaic it is a LOT clearer than the english was of trying to explain it.

Of course.  Problem is most folks don’t follow Christ.

I’m just starting with the subject of there being a God, and there being a hell, just for starters.

How can you be something that you dont practice? If you ARE Catholic, then you do Catholic things. You arent a religion just because your parents are that religion, or just because you say you are 😛

It would be like me telling everyone that I am in the Marines, or that I am a Marine, when I never was.

That is my question though - what is it that makes you Catholic if you dont even go to church, and study what Catholics study, etc.? Did someone just tell you that you were? What made you decide to be Catholic, and how are you different from the other religions.

If you cant answer those, then are you really Catholic?  :?

I pride myself on being able to debate any topic (even the side of the debate I don’t believe in), but what I have learned from this is that there are two topics that are extremely difficult to debate civily, without one person becoming offended. Those two topics are religion and politics.

I love politics, so much so that I am considering a career in politics. I am also a very religious person; 7 years in Catholic school and I have been Catholic my entire life. There are many things about the religion that I don’t agree with, but the foundations of faith that are there are fundamentally important to being a religious person. You aren’t going to hell because you skipped Sunday Mass, you aren’t going to hell for kissing a girl or drinking a beer. Any God that would banish me to hell for doing those things is just a mean guy.

I vote “NO” on creating either a religion board or a politics board. Even though I would undoubtably have the most posts at both boards, I am just saying this from experience of other boards that have had them and failed. They will dissolve into conflict when those who aren’t able to stomach the attacks against their beliefs, whether it be liberalism, conservatism, catholicism, buddhism, atheism, or any other belief system, when they strike back with anger and not reason.

I’d definitely post there. I’d even post in the religion and politics threads, since those are two subjects i do love. I will just stop posting as soon as people start to bicker, and I’ll just wait until a new thread on that subject is created. I refuse to ARGUE with people, but I will debate them.

Personally I don’t believe in any organized religion.  I do believe there is probably a higher power (aka “god”), but I also believe that no one on Earth knows any more about it than I do.  It’s baffled theologians and philosophers since (presumably) before recorded history.  But as there is currently no way to prove or disprove the existence of god people just make sh*t up, aka organized religions.  I mean, I’m not just talking about Christians or Muslims or Jews, etc.  There are thousands of religions with all sorts of crazy rituals.  Are they ALL wrong?  Somebody has to be right, right?  It’s just human nature to build these fantasies to answer troubling questions for which there are currently no good answers.  If you find comfort in a religion then I would suggest you just accept it for what they say it is and don’t think too much. @-)

I was raised catholic, but I don’t completely buy into it—also alot of my past would be highly looked down upon by their standards.

BTW, I’m not sure a religion thread would be a great idea…that’s just asking for a flame war.
