[quote author=“Tighr”]I pride myself on being able to debate any topic (even the side of the debate I don’t believe in), but what I have learned from this is that there are two topics that are extremely difficult to debate civily, without one person becoming offended. Those two topics are religion and politics.

Yeah, I agree completely.  But why would you debate, (according to your later posts) on a debate form on these topics, as opposed to argue.  I wonder what’s the difference?

I wonder if we should start a religion board.  Anyway, if you do, don’t you find it kind of harsh that God would ban everyone to hell if they didn’t believe in Jesus and did as he said?  Warning, I’m a hardcore expert on the Bible.

I’m atheist. 10 years of catholic grade school ensured me that there is no god.  It’s a simple matter of belief in science instead of belief in something intangible. I’m more of a “see it to believe person” and until god comes down and kicks me in the junk and tells me to start praying I’m not going to.

On another note, I’m pro-religion in a moderate sense. It does a lot of good for a lot of people. I’m very much anti-organized religion though because it doesn’t seem to do much besides create anger and animosity between various factions. Kinda like gang wars.

You really believe that man, and everything perfect in this creation, came about by evolution?  Where’s your tangible proof of that?

Are you serious?  What are the basic beliefs of that religion?

I’m not a bio major so I can’t give you the details. But evolution has moved far away from a “theoretical” stage and is simply called evolution. Of course in science as in anything really, you can never prove anything 100% which is why when I have debates with people on religion you eventually come to a stand still because you can’t prove either point.  :?

Not as such.
Never been one for organized religion, run too much like a business.
Thats not to say I don’t believe in faith, faith of some kind is good.
Faith and organized religion are two very different things in my experience.

I studied the Bible for 5 years everyday as part of this Christian organization.  No longer going there now.  It had its good side, but some very nasty bad sides too.  It was a cult that got all in your life’s schedule and forced you to do things (appeared righteous on the surface) that you didn’t really want to for fear of going to Hell.

I believe in a higher power, but wouldn’t say it’s christianity—I’m more of a free thinker…when you die if you led a pretty good life you’ll go somewhere pretty good…if you led a   pretty sh*tty life, you’ll go somewhere prettty sh*tty…it’s an easy concept.  😊

Exactly, organized religion…don’t know if I can trust it anymore.  Ever.  But how do you know if your understanding of God is correct if you don’t discuss and partake of His lessons with others?

I’m atheist and my family is Jewish.  So either way I wouldn’t believe in Jesus.  Sorry if that offends anyone.

I always liked the way Eddie Izard viewed death.

“When you die….well you look a mess.”

I’m pretty certain that when I die, I’m freaking dead and that’s it. Seeing as how I believe we’re animals like everything else (very intelligent animals) we’ll just die, decompose, and hopefully our corpse will grow flowers. Circle of life and all that crap.

Ah, but who’s the standard for sh*tty?  Even the most upright man fails miserably in the sight of God.  If you think this is a lead-in to Jesus, then you are right.  :D

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

See the problem with me having any sort of debate about the Bible is that I don’t take it as a historical document.  It’s a book and not a very entertaining one at that, except revelation. He must’ve been on some mad drugs when writing that.

All Scripture is God?breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

It comes from God.

How can you fail miserably in front of god I would think that becoming a serial killer would make him question your existance—however,  your average day person???  Because they didn’t die for something meaningful or what?  I dunno…Ima gonna jump outta the religion thread now…  it’s just asking for trouble.

Therein lies the problem. I don’t believe in god. It’s kinda funny because we could keep going in circles for hours.  I would prefer to just not discuss it because we both know where the other stands.  I’ve met my quota of forum fighting for the year with mini. I’m tuckered out.

Thats what faith is.

This, I’m sure is exactly what happens after death.
Its what you do while you’re alive that defines the whole abstract notion of faith.

I thought about starting a religion board here.

But as a hardcore bible guy…you should know that the Bible doesnt say anything about banishing people to Hell forever. Not by a long shot.  😉
