I’ve had hermit crabs since I was a kid but I never put them in those shells. Despite the fact that they don’t know the difference, I was always afraid the paint would scratch off and they would eat it or something. Also it’s degrading to the crab. Viva la crab.
I saw a bunch of shells like that at the mall, too. It was “buy a container, get a free crab” type deal. They had all the craps in the tub walking around. One was freaking huge… I bet he will never get bought, because he’s too huge. I felt bad for him. He’s going to die an old crab in a mall because no one wants a huge crab.
Actually, they pick what shells they want. They aren’t in the shells when they’re painted… so its more like he’s a little ticked that the only homes he has a choice in renting are painted!!!
The hermit crabs are in a big tank with lots and lots of shells, and as the crabs get bigger they like to switch shells. I was talking about when they switch to a bigger shell. They have to pick between the pink polka dot shell or the rainbow shell or the USA shell…

For some reason when I read this, all I thought of was the catepillar from a bugs life [Heimlich] saying ‘But I am flying’ I don’t know why, but I can’t stop laughing.
