Bipolar Disorder, also known as manic depression, is a brain disorder that results in severe swings of mood that can range from euphoria to suicidal depression. While the symptoms are of a psychological nature, there is little doubt that it is of biological origin, though its causes are considered unknown. Bipolar Disorder afflicts about one percent of the North American population. Symptoms usually begin in late adolescence, but the first symptoms can begin earlier or later.
