Bipolar Disorder, also known as manic depression, is a brain disorder that results in severe swings of mood that can range from euphoria to suicidal depression. While the symptoms are of a psychological nature, there is little doubt that it is of biological origin, though its causes are considered unknown. Bipolar Disorder afflicts about one percent of the North American population. Symptoms usually begin in late adolescence, but the first symptoms can begin earlier or later.

Did you know that some people with bipolar disorder get long-term help from antipsychotic medications?
Anticonvulsants were originally used to treat seizures, they can also be used to treat bipolar disorder. Web MD has details of treatment for this.
