Most professionals need more real-estate to work on, your getting more work done with a dual-display setup , but a average user like myself don’t need a 2 displays 1 will do just fine

Having two displays allow multi-tasking. you can be browsing a website on one side(doing research), and then witting an essay on the other. It’s for multi-tasking purposes…

not only multitasking, but people like game designers will have to look at concept art on one screen, and start modeling in a 3d program on the other
or people like me who have a reference picture one 1 side and i draw in photoshop on the other

I use two computer screens at work (one monitor and then the screen built into the laptop) as it gives me more efficiency.  Often I will have e-mail and a web browser such as firefox open on the one screen.  On the other screen, I will have a PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheet, various other files open in which I can copy information from the web into a presentation.  In addition, if I need to compare two PowerPoint files, or two spreadsheets, I can have one open on each screen.  Basically, the general answer would be so that I do not have to flip between screens constantly (saves a lot of time and headache if I am having to remember which version I am working on!)

Wait… dual monitor? I have no understanding what it is… is it dual monitor or dual screen? O.O???
How does it work, does it use the same keyboard and mouse? Wouldn’t that be a bit inconvenient? Or are two screens on one monitor… >_<

its 2 computer monitors connected to 1 computer
people use the second one as an extension of the first one,
so that it functions as if it were 1 wide screen
for example you can drag windows from one screen to the other
and since its 1 computer, its only one keyboard and one mouse
its incredibly useful =]

So it’s just a huge widescreen? How’s this any different from a huge wide one screen monitor?
I guess I misunderstood Buckeye’s reply, I thought they operated differently. But that’s really peculiar being able to drag from one screen from the next…
What kind of cable and monitor do you need, I might want one of these for the laughs xP

@SkyFuser: Sorry, I probably did not explain it that well.  I have my laptop, and then hooked in like normal is a monitor.  So I have my laptop that is open with screen #1 being the one built in to the laptop, and then I have the monitor sitting to the right with that being screen #2.  Initially they show the same image, but you can use the monitor as a second screen, by extending your desktop onto that monitor.

Windows XP: Right click on desktop—> Properties
Click on the Settings tab I believe (going off memory)

Windows Vista: Right click on desktop—> Personalize
Click on Display Settings

Then, for both OSes, you will see your monitor that is hooked up and should have the number “2” on it.  Click on that image and click “Extend the desktop onto this monitor” and resize the resolution and click OK.  After this is done, you should be able to move your curser to the right of screen #1 and it will appear on monitor #2 coming from the left.  A very cool trick!

Thanks Buckeye 😊 That sounds really useful. So if it’s an extension, all the windows will enlarge on both if I maximize it? That might bring on very interesting results…
The desktop will also extend to fit the monitor right? What happens if I decide to flood my desktop with files on the extended desktop and then go back to 1 screen? Is that going to cause massive overlay? I think I’m asking too many weird questions

Errr…really weird.

The only thing I could think of is to connect all working computer systems to a network I guess. Where did you see this at?

I’ll never do that, but it’s nice to know I can). It allows me to have a taskbar for each of my computer screens. .... Give me a laptop with two monitors, one that you can swing out when you have..
