Seems like we use an awfully lot of filesharing sites. We only know the major ones from the search engines like RapidShare, MegaUpload, SendSpace, etc. I actually do quite a lot of filehosting and filesharing for school projects so I thought I’ll some some with you. Expect lots of feedback as always XD
MediaFire - By far the best site so far. It says and delivers: Unlimited disk space, no waiting time, resume support, download accelerator support, never deleted files (unless they violate copyright and TOS), and everything is FREE. There isn’t even a paid service XD The only downsides (which don’t really count at all) are filesizes limiited to 100MB and there’s no file manager software. You MUST get this one if you use download sites regularly.
BOXStr - My recommendation for a HOTLINKING site. Daily 1GB bandwidth that can be reset, 5GB of free user space, and your files are never deleted (unless copyright or TOS infringement happens). There’s a desktop application for uploading, which free users are limited, but can still save a lot of time. Allows adding of mp3 player, a photo folder, private folders, etc. For convenience you can do a multiupload thing by zipping everything, then uploading with the Extract Zip Files checked. Very handy. My recommendation if you like to hotlink often. 1GB filesize limit and 1GB bandwidth is probably the only thing that’s disappointing.
4Shared - 5GB filesharing account for free users. Unlimited downloads, no waiting time, AND Kaspersky scans the files or baddies. The online file manager GUI looks like a web browser and is very easy to use, and it’s customizable to reflect your moods and feelings. There’s also a affiliate and referral program where you can make money referring people and get PayPal money. Files are never deleted, and it has specific modules for video, picture, and music sharing along with the standard file sharing. The only thing I don’t like is the 30 day login thing: if you’re a free user and you don’t log in for 30 days EVERYTHING is deleted. Grrr. But very good if you’re an active file upload/download user.
Humyo - Supposed to be online backup for your PC, but it’s also a filesharing site. And an awesome one at that. 25GB for free users: 20GB can be for multimedia related things like videos, music, etc. (If it’s a video it will also optimize a live stream whether it’s on your mobile phone or widescreen laptop, while 5GB can be used for nonmedia. There’s a syncing desktop application, but only payiing members will have unlimited use, free users only get a trial. I love my account.
The Linkup - Originally called MediaMax, it’s now The Linkup. Allows 25GB of storage (not sure if it’s MediaMax or not… MediaMax used to only allow mulltimedia) but seems like you can browse and choose any file. 25GB free storage, 2GB upload limit, but poo, only 10MB download limit <_< I preferred Humyo over MediaMax, but maybe The Linkup will be a better one 😊
Badongo - Just got a new account :D I love it. Free users have no download hassle, and nonmembers can download a bleeping 4.8GB PER DAY!!! RapidShare, even with their premium account, only allows you to download 25GB/5days. That’s only 5GB a day if you spread it out. But Badongo allows you almost that much for FREE. And free members have even more 12GB!!! The widgets are awesome too, there’s music player, a desktop application, file link widgets, and more. Only downside is that inactive files get deleted after 90 days… haven’t figured out if you can extend it or not.
MegaUpload - The main site I use for files along with MediaFire. It’s awesome: 50GB free storage, which is 2x more than the second best storage site. While they delete your inactive files in 90 days, you can extend the time by another 90 days and so on. Meaning, if you stay alive at least once every 3 months your files stay forever. They also let you temporarily enjoy premium during happy hour for 6 hours, but you need to install the MegaUpload toolbar. It’s Alexa powered (aka, a company that gives statistics about browsing habits their users have. Aka controversial spyware), but I found a loophole that it doesn’t have to be enabled, just installed, to enjoy happy hour XD. Their CAPTCHA is so easy it’s ridiculous, and their Mega Manager allows really really fast uploading to their sites. Although I do NOT recommend MegaRotic spinoffs. Lifetime premium is also available. Hmmm… yeah. Only downside I would say is the download limit. It’s like ~200? 300?MB every few hours.
So… yeah. Hopefully that introduced to you some better sites out there that beat RapidShare (ew) and Skydrive or Box.net. If you have any extras to introduce (please do I’m always trying to find alternatives :D) give the name, a link to the site, and a short blurb of the advantages and disadvantages.
