Do you use any parental control software on your computer?  With a lot of inappropriate websites on the web, I’m afraid that my family will be exposed to bad content while using the computer.  Ever since I’ve been using Windows Vista, I’ve enabled the parental controls from the Control Panel. 

You can set a specific setting for a user.  You can block websites that you don’t want a certain user to go to, and you can also choose to just specify exactly what websites they’re allowed to use (the rest will be blocked).  You can also change the web-restriction level which restricts the types of websites a certain user is allowed to visit.  If you don’t want users to download you can also prevent them from downloading anything.  You also have the option to set time limits for users.  You can block and allow users to use a certain program.

I found that this built-in Parental Control in Windows Vista is very useful and found it very easy to use.  Do you use any parental control software on your computer?  What software do you use and how would you say the software has helped you?

I do not use any parental control software on any of the computers because everyone is old enough in my household to not have to worry about stumbling onto an inappropriate site.  I also have the phishing filter and Norton to stop people from going to any malicious sites that are out there.  I have tried out the parental control settings in Vista when it came first came out and have been fairly impressed with what Microsoft has done.  Microsoft was also pushing the Windows Live Family Safety beta for awhile, and I applied from the program about a year ago, but have not heard any status updates on that project.
