Big Fish was pretty good, but I was actually let down—I was expecting more from Tim Burton the way he talked this film up.

Hey, I forgot about that film.  I heard there was no talking in it, just music.  Is it any good?

Awesome…surreal

no words, mostly music

but without a doubt the best hand drawn animated movie on years

and very twisted for a cartoon.  definitely for adults.

beautiful though

Well yes, even a NetFlix is considered a rental here.  😊

^^^ Agree, Big Fish was a bit of a let down.

I just watched Starsky and Hutch.  What happened to Ben Stiller, he used to be funny?

silence of the lambs.

My girlfriend and I are trying to watch the IMDB list of movies that made over 100million dollars.  311 movies in all.  I believe i’ve seen upwards of 80% now.  Haven’t checked the count lately.

Big Fish was a letdown?

IMHO, it was one of the most beautiful fantasy movies I have ever seen.

The fantasy surreal story his father told was amazing as was Ewan McGregrors acting.  The cast of characters he meets along the way were each so unique and amazing and the ending had me, and everyone i saw it with crying.

Purely beautiful movie with amazing visuals.  Unlike anything else out there and for that reason alone, deserves to be more well known and have been more popular than it was.

Only a bit of a letdown.  I really enjoyed the movie, I was really looking forward to it, but I felt like something was missing after I saw it.  I didn’t think it was a bad movie, I just didn’t think it was a great movie.

out of curiousity, what did you think it was missing and what were your expectations going in?

I’m not sure what was missing from the film…while I said I was let down, again, this wasn’t a major disappointment.  I said the film was good, but as already said by Chris655 at the end I was left wanting something more—although I’m not sure what that was.  I agree, Ewan McGregor played an excellent character, and the acting was spot on—I just needed something more.

*off searching for something more*

It’s difficult to say exactly what I expected or didn’t.

I really enjoy Cohen bros. movies.  Where the main character encounters circumstances that are really improbable and the situations are so far out of the ordinary that you have to laugh, cry, stare in disbelief, etc…  and the outcome is very original, or at least not necessarily what you expect.  I wasn’t necessarily thinking that Big Fish would be like a Cohen bros. movie, but I was expecting something different.

Big Fish is good, but just didn’t quite “speak” to me.  I wasn’t really surprised when Danny Devtio turned into a werewolf nor did I feel empathy when Ewan’s character found love.  Maybe I expected a story where things were a little less “spelled out” and left ambiguous?

When people see movies,  it?s about whether or not a movie makes them feel something, think, or laugh about something and Big Fish didn’t quite do it for me.  It’s like when you hear a song that a lot of people like but something about the rythm or overall sound doesn’t quite get to you.

I wouldn’t debate anyone that thinks Big Fish is a really great movie, but again, like any art, its about whether or not it “speaks” to you directly.
