Does anyone have any suggestions for a good music editing program? one that can handle various formats and convert them? I am also interested in any good mixing programs that are shareware or freeware.

Audacity is good and open-source. Lol my school has actually installed it 2 weeks ago on the library Macs.

I personally CyberPower Audio Editing Lab from Giveawayoftheday… much nicer looking GUI and has a few more functions than Audacity.

Edit: I have both on my system (yeah I know I’m a software freak) so you can be assured they’re good programs.

My choice is Audacity. Free, fast and easy and I use it to edit a lot of my songs. I’m not too sure how many formats you need to convert, but check out Audacity. 😉 I’m not too sure what you mean about mixing programs though…can you clarify? Thanks.

I have tried sony sound forge 4.0 and i couldn’t get used to the interface. Audacity is something that I will have to check into.

As far as mixing goes, i was talking about mixing music, like a dj does in the club? I found one program that is really good, called Traktor 3, by NI Studios. It has a 30 min trial mode, but you can’t save anything in it. and it costs $250 for the program license. Some of the freeware ones on the market also contain spyware, or are not very good at what they are supposed to do.

I’m using Audacity simply because it’s simple and free. I don’t need $200 software if I only use it twice a week when I’m not so busy as previous 4 weeks. I didn’t use it in 4 weeks, pretty long time, not? 😊

I do very little in the way of sound editing myself, but I know my brother uses Audacity and he loves it.
