SoundCard Necessity?

Hi,
I am currently on my way to purchase the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 PC speaker system, I am wondering if a sound card is really necessary to go along with the speakers. I know that ideally, it does make a difference in maximizing the experience, but i do not have much cash to spend on a sound card.

I’m currently using an ASUS motherboard and it comes with an onboard audio called CMEDIA (chipset CMI8738 6CH with spdif).

My real question is, if i used my 5.1 speakers with this onboard sound that supports up to 6 channels, can you REALLY hear a major difference as oppose to buying a good soundcard such as (Audigy 2). Like can a normal ear hear the difference if you aren’t like a music producer who has a keen hearing.

Also, the logitechz already comes wiht many decoders such as Dolby? Digital, THX? certification, DTS? Digital Surroud.  Does that mean I need a good sound card in order to USE these features? or does this mean that i can have a crapier sound card and still get good sound quality?

If you guys can help me out, that’d be awesome
