Ok. My provider is Telus (because I get 30% off my bill).
This is what I can gather about their services:
TELUS Mobility’s national wireless network runs on 1X, the latest evolution of North America’s leading digital technology standard: CDMA. 1X is a highly efficient packet data network that allows always-on Internet access at speeds equal to or better than wireline dial-up technology.
The first step along TELUS Mobility’s path to 3G (for Third Generation wireless), 1X moves data quickly, allowing for fast and reliable Internet connections. This opens the door for a variety of new services such as interactive games, mobile business applications, personalized ring tones and other downloadable software, and in future - streaming video and other multimedia applications.
1X offers Internet connections at least as fast as a dial-up modem but, most importantly, offers that speed to clients wherever they might be in our 1X service areas across Canada and within our roaming partner areas throughout the U.S. Mobile professionals will be able to connect to corporate Intranets, e-mail servers, the Internet, and other online services, allowing for new m-commerce applications, location-based services and other offerings that require fast data throughput.
As well, 1X offers greatly increased network voice capacity, advanced packet data services and extended battery life on client phones.
Wireless Internet Everywhere*, TELUS Mobility’s future friendly, one-box mobile computing solution offers wireless access PLUS value-added Internet services. You can mobilize your Pocket PC or Windows laptop using Wireless Internet Everywhere at speeds of 40 to 60 kbps! The “always available” connection means no more dialing up and waiting to connect - you’ll have an instant, secure connection to the information and applications you rely on - from corporate e-mail, to databases and Web sites - throughout our extensive national 1X coverage and within our roaming partner areas throughout the U.S.
Choose from several easy options:
Modems
PDAs and converged devices
Phone cable and wireless modem kits
TELUS Mobility’s 1X network covers more than 27 million Canadians in major urban centres across the country including Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto and Southern Ontario, Ottawa, Montr?al, Qu?bec City, and Halifax.
We continue to expand outside those urban locations, including our new service areas in smaller population centres across Ontario, Qu?bec, and the Atlantic provinces. Please see our coverage maps for more information.
Voice and data services can also be accessed throughout the United States within our roaming partner coverage areas.
*Note: Not available to Pay & Talk clients.

So… This means that getting an unlocked phone would be useless because unlocked phones are only for GSM service providers?
Because I don’t want to go into any year plan, I’d like to pay $40 a month for the same thing as the plan but not be contracted in. I’d also like to buy my phone off eBay instead of from telus because it’s cheaper :p
Also:
I COULD use the phone I have now, however the screen is cracked (internally) and from what my mom said, it will cost $100 (CDN) to get it fixed. Well for $100 (plus a lil bit) a could buy a nicer phone 😊
Here’s the pic of the phone and it’s crackedness:
