iPod has an index, so that when you are searching for songs you are actually searching a database, and it doesn’t access the harddrive until you select the file you want. That also reduces HD stress.

ahh i see.. it seems that most of the “benefits” of this are due to the different file.. yet it also seems that under close inspection those ‘benefits’ really aren’t that great.

EVERYONE is gunning for the iPod these days….. It’s really sad.  Don’t follow success.  Create it.  Wow, that was unexpected, I just came up with that and it’s actually kinda good lol.

damn i was really waiting for this product to come out too. heard about it for months. i just seen the commerical on tv earlier 2nite. but that whole different format just kills it horribly. its not goin to last long. no1 is going to want to convert all their mp3s to other format. not me. i have almost 20gigs of music. 4get that/

I have seen it advertised in magazines. It looks cool, but like I said before the format problem has sunken the ship before it has left the dock.

I was all sorts of psyched for this player but converting my 16 gigs? Hell no. If this thing played mp3 you bet I’d have one right now.

Ok, so Sony comes out with a new format that reduces an mp3 file to 1/10 (atrac3) or 1/20 (atrac3 plus) its size and people are upset by this?
you are probably the sons and daughters of the same people who said that cds would never work and complained that they would have to transfer their entire music collection from 8 track or cassettes. The same people who thought that VHS tapes wouldn’t hold up to Beta standards…....news flash people times are a-changin’ either get with the program or get the hell out of the way i have a sony headunit in my truck capable of both mp3 and atrac format playback. If i can put 150 mp3’s on a cd (or around 10 or so full albums) or almost 1,000 atrac-converted mp3s (around 255 full albums) while retaining the same musical quality which am i going to do…..you tell me…...or rather dont because i’m sure to you it would be too much of a hassle to save myself room on my hard drive by decreasing my 20 gigs of music to a measly 1 gig

well a year ago i would have said the same thing, regardless of your opinion or any others i had somethin to say, i said it and its true…....so whats the problem?

did i offend you because you were one of the ones that was complaining about having to switch your entire vhs collection to dvd?

What are you talking about man? I still have ALL my VHS collection, including recordings as well.  A year ago when this thread was active, people were complaining about the Sony player unable to support mp3, but rather it’s own ATRAC format.  In other words, everyone had to convert their thousands of songs into ATRAC, why?  What’s wrong with mp3?  At least Apple got it right by letting the ipod support mp3 and not just some proprietary format.

Obviously things are different now, gee, I wonder why Sony supports mp3 now.  Maybe because their player was selling that bad…?  Are you a Sony fanboi? Just curious.
