Playing catchup here in this thread.

Yes, Supercom is correct.  I won the N-Gage QD from a web site.  I think the price if you were to purchase one would be around $200, but most phone vendors I’ve seen have the phone for around $100 with service.

And of course, there is also eBay.  I’ve seen most go for about $120 unlocked.

Just got a Nokia N-Gage QD two days ago (won it in a contest).

So far, it’s pretty cool, but still trying to get service for it (it’s currently configured as an AT&T GoPhone and needs more minutes added to it.)

Anyone else out here have an N-Gage?

Yep… it is.  Smaller and you don’t have to talk sideways to use as a cell phone.

So far, the games I’ve found for it are cool.

I currently have Sprint for my cell phone service, but this could be configured to use either Cingular/AT&T or T-Mobile.

T-Mobile wants $50 to activate it on their Pay As You Go serivce.  AT&T/Cingular just needs to reconfigure the account for me to add more minutes to it.  I’m not a big fan of AT&T, but haven’t been with them for almost 2 years now.  Maybe Cingular is better.  Not sure.  We’ll try out 80 mins worth of airtime to see.

It came with one game… Pocket Kingdom, which is pretty cool so far.

I don’t know about Utah, but here in Dallas, ever since the ATT/Cingular merge, ATT went to crap, and Cingular is even worse. My friend couldn’t keep a phone call for more than 6 minutes another friend gets some hideous static on his phone. Plus, their customer service stinks. I’d go with a T-mobile non- pay as you go plan. I like their service, and they’ve always hooked me up with free stuff.

When I was with AT&T, their service was great, rarely dropped calls, but PITA for trying to get them to work with me on getting a better plan.

In my first 2 months with Sprint, they called, credited my account with free minutes, gave me 2 free phones with $0 per month extra and have really done well.  Since July, their service has been poor near my house and they’ve done good and trying to get it resolved, but it’s been frustrating to have more dropped calls than before.

So now with this N-Gage, I want to try out Cingular and T-Mobile.  I want to make sure the phone will work where I use it the most.

I really like my Sprint plan, and I would hate to get rid of it, but at the same time, it would be nice to have a phone that doesn’t drop calls that I can move about - as a cell phone should be used.

So far, the few calls I’ve made to Cingular customer service on the N-Gage have been ok, but patchy in their connection.

Thanks for the tip on Cingular.  I’ll have to see how they are.

For now, it’s a pain to get through to a human in customer service.

That’s exactly what I did…. finally got to a human (actual people DO answer phones…. shocking, but true!)

She got me set up on a 200 min plan for $30 for now.  Since it’s a second phone, I didn’t need a bunch of mins and this will work out, allowing me to at least try it for a month.

The phone must have came from Calif since it has a 415 area code on it.

As far as games go, I found a free Yahtzee game and I’ve been playing that a lot.  Haven’t had time to get into Pocket Kingdom yet, but am trying to track down a cheap racing game for it.

Of all things, they have software that can let you view Word and Excel files on this thing… wild…  it’s something called Quick Office for the Series 60 phones.

There’s a lot out there for this thing…. including a version of MAME… and it works pretty good for several games so far, including Ms. Pac Man.

Like I said before, too bad this thing is GSM… otherwise I’d switch it over to Sprint in a heartbeat.

I loved my QD, but got rid of it when I switched back to sprint after a billing fiasco with cingular.  Oh well, it was fun while it lasted…definitely an eye-catcher, esp with a diff faceplate.

I think that you can unlock your phone, then you will be able to use it on any company with GSM….

BTW, AT&T sucks… Use T-Mobile or Cingular

Actually, AT&T is now Cingular.

For now, it’s an AT&T GoPhone (via Cingular serivce - my phone shows both names on it).  In April, when my Sprint contract comes due, I’ll try the phone on T-Mobile to see what their service is like.
