Downloading music, for me, is one of those things that’s “illegal”, but feels perfectly legal while I’m doing it and I have absolutely no remorse… ::cough:: underage drinking ::cough::

[quote author=“sweet jesus”]I use soulseek for music and bittorrent for everything else. Soulseek is the only p2p that I can actually find my music on, plus there’s no spyware or adware.

Bittorrent is awesome just plain awesome. Especially if you know the right places to go to… *cough*suprnova.org*cough* Also if you want some protection I reccomend peerguardian. methlabs.org and for bittorrent users to get Azureus and install the plugin, safepeer.

Actually to refer to a comment earlier—as far as Canadians not being punished for file sharing; has nothing to do w/ the jurisdictions of the RIAA—Actually there was a lawsuit in Canada [brought on by Canadian Record Labels] and the courts upheld that nothing ‘illegal’ was being done; therefore setting precedence for any other pending lawsuits, so they were all dropped, and have not been pursued until [hopefully this won’t happen] it is overturned.

Soulseek and Bittorrent are they way to go. I must say soulseek has some stuff that you will most likely not find ANYWHERE else. Very good program.

When I’m at school, i use DirectConnect++, which someone at school has set up a Local hub. You have to have an IP address in our school’s subnet in order to connect (keeps out the RIAA). Its pretty big, about 5 or 6 Terabytes usually, and you can get most anything you need.

When I’m at home, I’ll use bittorrent but ONLY if I really want something. Like a movie or game or something. Other than that, I don’t ever bother downloading stuff anymore. Too much of a hassle; better use of my time to just go to the store and buy a game, or go to the movie theater and watch the movie.

I have about 3000+ songs, but most are ripped from CDs or remnants of my MP3s from the napster days. I have a few that i got from Kazaa back when that started, and morpheus, and I used to use limewire. But this was all 3 years ago, I just don’t use that crap anymore.

DC++ is the way to go when I’m at school, and other than that I just don’t bother.

As of right now?  NO!; However, there is nothing that says the Canadian Record labels cannot keep a record of infringer’s IP—and bring charges later [not sure what the statute of limitations is], the could technically [once the get a judge in their pocket] supeona the ISP’s of the file swappers and find out who was using x.x.x.x on a given day & time.  Of course I’m no lawyer, so don’t take my word for it.

[quote author=“pezdukie”]Around 2000 songs here.

1500 from Klite
500 from WinMX (what my bro usually uses)

Anyone know where I can re-download Kazaa Lite?  Need to install in a new PC, and the web sites that I’m bringing up in Google have removed it.

seriously don’t use kazaa.. even kazaa lite isn’t that great.  You’ll find that even on kazaa lite especially with popular songs… the mp3’s are scrambled.  Also if you’re not careful you can download possibly very harmful viruses and trojans.  All in all the program itself just isn’t that good either.

I strongly suggest Soulseek.. great program.. i love it.. it’s great for downloading full albums and singles.. i don’t really download anything else on it.. programs and movies I use bit torrent.

You can usually find zips of entire albums on bittorrent.. I’m not sure about them though. As I posted earlier, I dont’ file share at all anymore on p2p… I wait til I’m at school.

I downloaded an XBOX game a few days ago and burned it to DVD. Worked perfectly in the modded XBOX. I was quite amazed.

Andru, I used to do that on my ps1. It is fun to see it work :D

Kazaa, I have nearly 5k songs from kazaa and other sources on my computer, with about another 2-5k on discs that I burned as archival copies. When downloading on Kazaa, make sure you download the file that has the highest file size of the bit rate you are choosing. Beware of the files that have the highest file size, and are seemingly too long (8 mins). If you run into a file that is of good file size, but bad length, go check freedb.org and check to see the actual file length. It is possible to download good files on Kazaa, but you just have to work at it…And sometimes, you’ll have to go over the 192 kbps and get maybe 256 or 320 kbps, but other times you’ll have to downgrade and get 128 or 160 kbps.

RIAA, They do nab people. Although, you’d think they’d get someone like me (who has amassed quite a collection of movies, music, programs, and information), instead of this kid that lives in my neighborhood (who only had like 500 songs). But they did, and it was all over local news. The spatter pattern of arresting these kids (I guess) is supposed to inflict fear upon the locals (scare tactics). It worked. I know of several families in my area that stopped downloading on the internet. My parents tried to get me to stop, and I told them I had, but I was still at it 😛 Key to not getting caught: Don’t share, and don’t allow users to see what you’ve got in your file library. Also, try not to leave your downloading clients open when they are inactive. Better to not show up on the network if you can avoid it… IP’s will always be traceable, so don’t think that some program will keep you under their radar. Just don’t share and you should be fine. At least, from my logical perspective that’s what it looks like.

It’s definitely possible to get music from kazaa.. i just recently got rid of it because frankly it wasn’t worth the hassle.  I would alternate using kazaa and soulseek.. but it ended up more and more files i’d download from kazaa were just crappy.. could I have found a good file? of course.  But why go through the trouble when they’re good clients out there.

As for the RIAA as you said minijigga there are ways to do things, you just have to be careful.
