[quote author=“enforce1”]USB v. Firewire, though, firewire wins. It has a slightly lower transfer rate (400mbps) but it has a higher stable rate… you know, USB 2 peaks at 480, but you’ll rarely, if ever acheive that.

Agreed, but 99% of the users out there don’t have any need for firewire—except the ipod of course.  USB is so common for PC users, you’ll rarely see hardware that is strictly firewire.

In comparison how long would it take for a song to transfer to an iPod from my computer using USB 1.0? 2.0? I am just curious about this because my dad has USB 1.0 and he doesnt know if he should buy USB 2.0.

Not too long.. for me about 10 sec most.
Fast on 2.0 ofcourse.  My got this cheap firewire/usb2.0 card that no longer works so i have to use 1.0 for now.  Not that bad.  But noticeable if you dump
lotsa songs at once.

the difference: 12mbps vs 480mbps. that’s a pretty large difference. now ya, adding one song to your ipod, you prolly won’t notice a large difference in transfer time, but just try plopping a few gigs at once. you can get a usb 2.0 pci card for cheap now, i bought one for extra ports, and it was about 15-20 bucks, and i’m sure you can prolly find it cheaper if you look hard enough. the install is easy too, just plug it into a pci port lol. if it was up to me, i’d buy the card, you’ll be happy that you aren’t waiting overnight for the songs to transfer to your ipod, haha.
