Dean Browski’s Wildcard Saturday

Season: 133-117-6
Last Week: 10-5-1

I finished the season on a strong note and am feeling a 4-0 Wildcard Weekend!

Atlanta Falcons @ Arizona Cardinals
Notes: First home playoff game for the Cardinals organization since they were the Chicago Cardinals.  For those that don’t know, or don’t remember, they were the St. Louis Cardinals for an awfully long time.  That makes the last home playoff game an even more awfully long time ago.  The Falcons are the NFC’s Cinderella story, rebounding from misery to have a great year and shock almost everyone.  The Cardinals meanwhile did what many thought they would, which is make the playoffs.  The Cardinals were afforded the luxury of a weak division that despite low expectations performed even beneath those.  Now everyone is in love with the Falcons and is quick to point out all the Cardinals warts.  I am not one of those people.  First off, the Falcons are stargting a rookie QB and despite how well Matt Ryan has performed he is going against a Super Bowl winning QB in Kurt Warner.  Add to that the fact that the Cardinals are 5-2 at home this year and the Falcons are 4-4 on the road, and it is no longer so obvious that the Falcons will run away with this game.  Speaking of running, Michael Turner of the Falcons has had an outstanding year but the Falcons run productivity it significantly diminished on the road.  I am getting this game as a Pick with my book, and most other books have it anywhere from + 1 to -1 for the Cardinals.  Look for the Cardinals to score a bunch of points and while the Falcons will do their best to keep pace, they just won’t have the offensive firepower to do so.

Indianapolis Colts @ San Diego Chargers
Notes: People are saying that the Chargers are one of the hottest teams in the NFL.  Are you kidding me?!?!  Hot because they beat a bad Broncos team, a Buccaneers team that sucked all of December, the Chiefs and the Raiders?!?!  That is all a team has to do in order to be considered hot?  Give me a break. The Colts were 4 games better than the Chargers during the regular season, AND the Colts played in a better division, AND the Colts started the year with Peyton Manning missing all of camp.  I know there is a history of the Chargers giving the Colts trouble, but that is exactly what it is, history.  The Chargers showed who they are this year, which is an over hyped team with a bad head coach, a quarterback that is prone to temper tantrums and a running back that always seems to be hurt when it matters the most.  The Colts meanwhile have shown who they are, a team that knows how to win, a team that keeps it cool under pressure, a team that has a quarterback that wins every year and a head coach that does the same.  The fact that I can get this game at a pick em makes me salivate.
