Keira Knightley Turns Out For Chanel

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Models, News,
Keira Knightley was among the many stars who turned out for Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week show today.
The British actress, who has been a muse for the iconic French fashion house’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld, joined a whole host of high-profile names for the event at the city’s Grand Palais. Keira’s fellow muse Lily Allen - who was handpicked by Lagerfeld to front the label’s Fall/Winter 2009 handbag collection - was also in attendance at the star-studded event, with actress Rachel Bilson and supermodel Claudia Schiffer also taking to the front row.
The Palace of Versailles was recreated inside the Grand Palais especially for the fashion showcase, with more than 80 models parading Chanel’s new creations up and down the runway. Despite a new modern take, the classic Chanel suit made a re-emergence on the Parisian catwalk, while pretty pastels, feathers and dramatic gothic-inspired pieces played a key role in the Spring/Summer 2011 collection.
Meanwhile, Ines de la Fressange - the fashion house’s original muse - marked her first return to the Chanel catwalk in 21 years by taking to the runway in a black floor-length chiffon gown and gold costume jewelery, while being greeted by a rapturous applause by the audience.

Items Du Jour: Lara Stone Covers Vogue Again, Alber Elbaz Cares

—A pregnant Lily Allen showed up at Givenchy in some chic pregnancy wear. True to Fall/Winter looks, she kept it simple and Parisian with a gray long coat, white blouse, and black pumps.
—Glee star Lea Michele has become quite the fashion darling, striking a pose with Zac Posen. With her nude robe-like dress, I’d say that she has some more styling etiquette to learn.
—Alber Elbaz is probably the sweetest, most caring designer. The Lanvin creative gave his models the option of wearing comfy gladiator sandals (at the last minute!) for his Spring/Summer 2011 show.
—After scoring Vogue Paris‘s coveted 90th anniversary cover, Lara Stone is right back on Vogue—this time, it’s in her native UK mag.
—Finally taking a cue from some sensible publicists, American Apparel attempts to save the brand’s image in some new ads that feature a less-creepy Dov in the face of their financial woes. He just still couldn’t resist shooting the ads in his bed.
—Traditional and iconic American swimsuit model Marisa Miller changes things up for 944, sporting a dark bob wig and gloves—a far cry from her usual California-esque look.

Giles Deacon Brings Ungaro Back

Giles Deacon has single-handedly brought the House of Emanuel Ungaro back from
awful reviews with his first collection for the French label.
After their Lindsay Lohan debacle, the brand quickly snatched up Deacon to fill Estrella Archs’s position, and they couldn’t have made a smarter move! The Spring/Summer 2011 collection is a feminine, sophisticated, and gorgeous blend of fantastic prints and fabrics, matched with a plethora of cuts and styles. On top of that, how great is it that the models are actually smiling?
Perhaps Ungaro himself will approve this collection…

Beth Ditto Walks for John Paul Gaultier

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Health & Beauty, Models, News,
Beth Ditto walked the catwalk for Jean-Paul Gaultier at Paris Fashion Week on Saturday.
The Gossip singer - a size 26 - opened the eccentric designer’s Spring/Summer 2011 ready-to-wear show with an a cappella performance, and also returned to close the showcase of punk-inspired outfits in one of his flamboyant creations. To a rapturous reception, the designer himself then took to the runway to present the outspoken singer with a bouquet of pink roses and a glass of champagne.
Ditto is currently preparing for the launch of her second collection for UK plus-size retailer Evans. Speaking about the new line, an Evans spokesperson recently said, “It will be Victorian mixed with 80s punk, through to 40s vintage with a noughties modern edge.”
Beth has previously spoken about the importance of larger women being creative with clothes in order to flatter their body shape: “I don’t understand all these women who say they feel betrayed by fashion. A piece of clothing can’t talk - it can’t tell you that you can’t have it - so really, you’re just telling yourself that. You make yourself the victim, because if you want clothes that bad, then make them yourself. You have to get creative if you’re fat. I’m really good at turning a belt into a necklace, and I can always find a nice pair of earrings.”

Pregnant Miranda Kerr Walked for Balenciaga

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Health & Beauty, Models, News,
Miranda Kerr took to the catwalk for Balenciaga yesterday, despite being five months pregnant.
The Australian model was watched by husband Orlando Bloom at the Paris Fashion Week show, with other celebrities including Charlotte Gainsbourg and Salma Hayek taking in the designs by Nicolas Ghesquiere.
The Spring/Summer 2011 collection was hard on utilitarianism - applique body panels, cocoon coats and riveted leather belts made a strong showing on the runway, with Ghesquiere revealing he wanted a wet look to the clothes.
“I wanted to make everything look as though it had been in the rain.”
Miranda was not the only big name to walk the runway for Balenciaga - Brazilian beauty Gisele Bundchen also made waves in a white ensemble with a see-through skirt.
Quote of the Day: Carine Roitfeld on Censorship

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Editorials, Models,

“What I can see is that now, the censoring is bigger than it was 20, 30, or 40 years ago. I think we have less freedom. Today some pictures [from past issues of Vogue Paris] would not even be publishable. It’s not just about the nudity, but when you talk about things politically, the military, kids, it would all be politically incorrect and not publishable today. We have to fight to keep this un-politically correct attitude of French Vogue, but it’s more and more difficult to be able do that. You cannot smoke, you cannot show arms, you cannot show little girls, because everyone now is very anxious not to have problems with the law. Everything we do now is like walking in high heels on the ice, but we keep trying to do it.”
- French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld on current censorship in fashion magazines.

Heidi Klum Hangs Up Angel Wings

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Shows, Models, News,
Model-turned-television star Heidi Klum is quitting Victoria’s Secret.
The supermodel has been at the lingerie giant for 13 years but has now announced she is hanging up her angel wings and won’t be strutting down the runway in the annual November show.
“All good things have to come to an end. I will always love Victoria’s Secret. It has been an absolutely amazing time.”
In 2002, Heidi became the “Head Angel” and amazed everyone last year when she posed in her underwear at the show just five weeks after giving birth to her fourth child. Other Victoria’s Secret Angels include Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
Heidi recently admitted she has got a “sell-by date” and said there are only certain campaigns she will sign up to now because the rest are more suited to younger girls: “Models have a sell-by date. There are certain jobs I don’t do anymore, like the young, sexy, cute things for teenagers, or even 25-year-old girls. I go in a different bracket now.”
Loyal Muse Naomi Campbell

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Health & Beauty, Models,
Supermodel Naomi Campbell is “loyal” to the fashion designers she has worked with from a young age.
The British-born model explained the support of the likes of Gianni Versace and Yves Saint Laurent helped her break into the industry, and while she is not “forced” to wear their designs, she considers them to be “creative geniuses.”
“Our group kind of broke in with the support of designers like Gianni Versace, Azzedine Alaia, Yves Saint Laurent, and Karl Lagerfeld, and their connections to both the magazines and the photographers. I loved watching so many of the great designers I’ve worked with do what they do. That’s why I’m still loyal to the designers that I’ve known since I was 16. It’s not that I’m forced to be - it’s that they’re creative geniuses and I love what they do. For my whole group of girls, it wasn’t always about how much we were getting paid. We were interested in how creative it looked-how it would come across.”

Items Du Jour: Crystal Renn Plays With Food, X-Men Fight Terry

—Supermodel Heidi Klum admitted to eating so much spaghetti prior to a gala in Milan that she could barely zip up her gown.
—Brad Goreski is leaving Rachel Zoe. Don’t worry for him, though—the split is supposedly amicable.
—Terry Richardson has recruited Crystal Renn for a French Vogue shoot which calls for her eating various foods in overly sexual poses.
—Speaking of Terry, Marvel’s Uncanny X-Men #528 comments on a Barry Richardman whose name is not the only thing the character has in common with the controversial photographer. According to the two X-Men, Richardman’s “art is cheap, exploitative porn,” and “what he does to models is borderline assault and unquestionably cruel.”
—Lady Gaga attended her grandfather’s funeral on Monday looking surprisingly normal (as opposed to the last family event she attended—her sister’s graduation).
