For the most iconic and stylish doll around, it was no wonder that Barbie decided to finally team up with famed shoe designer Christian Louboutin. From the looks of the newly-reinvented doll and her photo book diary, Louboutin didn’t let our girl down.
“Barbie has a long history of working with various designers and artists who use Barbie as a muse… It was a natural for Barbie, not only with her fashion heritage, but also because of her passion for shoes. She has a billion shoes and we needed to do something special for her shoe collection,” said Stephanie Cota, senior vice president of marketing of Barbie brands at Mattel.

First Look: Rodarte For Target

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Rumors, Women, Accessories, Dresses,

Although its due date isn’t until December 20th, pictures of Rodarte’s Target line have surfaced on the internet, and now I’m even more anxious!
Not only do I want the Madonna-esque gloves and mustard (yes, that’s right) lace dress, but I think that I just may be more upset after having seen the images—my closet cannot wait two months for those pieces.
I have to admit that the ribcage graphic print dress (seen after the jump) is one that I do not fancy; however, there are 54 other pieces in the collection. Why can’t it be December 20th already?

Betsey Johnson Wants TV Diffusion Line

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Rumors, Sales, Women,
As rumors continue to circulate around Betsey Johnson’s desire for a diffusion line, the playful designer speaks out on her ideal shopping platform: television.
“I want to do television, like QVC or HSN. That’s in talks. I let the talkers do the talk. I jump in at the end,” Johnson revealed, when quizzed on the hopefully-upcoming line.
If she had to pick between the two networks?
“I like QVC because I’ve done it for breast cancer, T-shirts and stuff over the years. And my dentist is a big QVC-er. And Stan Herman from the CFDA, he does QVC. And my lingerie company does QVC. It just seems more QVC-y to me, in terms of my collaborations with companies.”
While she may be pretty young at heart (and in her clothes), Johnson admits that she has a slight fear of new technologies.

Karl Lagerfeld Defends Thin Models

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Health & Beauty, Models, News, Women,
Living fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld has blasted “fat mummies” for their attitudes against skinny models.
The 71-year-old Chanel designer criticized Brigitte magazine’s announcement that they will only use “ordinary, realistic” models in future, insisting that people prefer looking at slim women and the “absurd” decision was driven by overweight women who did not want to be reminded of their body problems.
“These are fat mummies sitting with their bags of crisps in front of the television, saying that thin models are ugly. Fashion is all about dreams and illusions, and no one wants to see round women.”
Another designer, John Ribbe, has also spoken out, saying the row over models’ weight is becoming hysterical: “It’s just as much a cliche as saying that all models take drugs and get drunk at sex orgies. Ninety per cent of them are quite normal, properly proportioned girls with less fat and more muscles who also eat pizzas and burgers.”
Brigitte are planning to release their first edition with non-professional models on January 2nd and are urging readers to sign up for photo sessions, saying that they are tired of having to “fatten up” pictures. Editor Andrea Lebert said, “We will show women that have their own identity—the 18-year-old A-level student, the company chairwoman, the musician, the footballer.”
Lindsay Lohan’s Good Luck Charms

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,

Lindsay Lohan designs jewelery to keep her family safe. The actress-turned-fashion designer has created a string of glitzy accessories for her mother Dina to wear for good luck when they have to embark on long-haul flights without each other.
Dina - who was wearing a diamond ring on her engagement finger - said:
“Lindsay actually designed this ring. She’s designing jewelery, and she put this on my finger. We have a thing - when my girls leave the airports and we leave each other, we put things like a Kabbalah bracelet or the Eye of the Blessed Mother on each other. So she put this on me the last time she left. She designed this ring, and this necklace as well. And I gave her what I was wearing. It’s like a family thing to fly safe. Ain’t it corny?”

Karl Lagerfeld’s Opinions on Paris Fashion Week

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows,

Karl Lagerfeld thinks only “impressive” shows should be staged at Paris Fashion Week.
The legendary designer - who showed his eponymous label’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection at the event as well as that of Chanel, where he is creative director - claims uninspiring shows have no place at the French capital’s event.
In an interview with singer Katy Perry for Elle.com, Karl said: “I think there are great people and collections here, like Lanvin. For me, it’s important that there are a lot of impressive collections at Paris because otherwise it’s not worth coming. There has to be exciting people and exciting shows here or else it all falls flat.”

Outdoors Inspire Dsquared

While Jeremy Scott looked to the Flintstones for his Spring/Summer ‘10 collection, Dsquared looked to camping.
Designers Dean and Dan Caten even injected the topic into the set of their show at Milan Fashion Week, with curtains drawing to reveal a woodland scene with tents and mirrors resting on trees.
The clothes included cut-off shorts, T-shirts, and jean jackets teamed with vertiginous platform shoes. In case of bad weather, models were given full-length clear plastic macs with neon trims, worn over eye-popping bikinis. Caps were also a big look, with a purple evening gown accessorised with the headgear and a bottle of Budweiser beer.
Men were also catered for at the show, with the twin designers—who recently designed costumes for Britney Spears‘s Circus tour, and have previously dressed Justin Timberlake, Madonna and Lenny Kravitz—dressing them in gardening gloves and leggings teamed with walking boots. More wearable were the suit jacket, shirt and skinny tie combination.
Sonia Rykiel Teaming Up With H&M

Sonia Rykiel is the latest guest designer for H&M.
The collaboration, which debuts in stores worldwide on December 5th, represents the high street chain’s first designer foray into lingerie and accessories, with the garments also being sold in major Sonia Rykiel boutiques around the world.
In addition, the designer will collaborate on a second collection for Spring/Summer ‘10, featuring knitwear for women and girls. The line will launch in February next year.
H&M have praised the “joyful chic” of their newest collaborator. The store’s creative advisor Margarets van den Bosch said, “Sonia Rykiel is a true fashion icon who invented a signature style around femininity, Parisian chic and modernity—as well as functional, comfortable, wearable clothes. She has an attitude that inspires admiration among women of all ages around the world. We loved the joyful chic of Sonia Rykiel’s 40th anniversary runway show—and in that spirit this collection is all about reveling in great lingerie for its own sake. This is a totally modern, new kind of lingerie look, and when we started to work together with Rykiel on it, we just couldn’t stop. It’s a wonderful highlight for our main collection.”

Naomi, Claudia, and Eva Smell and Look Good

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, Health & Beauty, Models, News,
Approaching the age of 40 doesn’t stop supermodels Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, and Claudia Schiffer from looking fabulous.
The trio showed up to Milan Fashion Week to promote the Dolce & Gabbana Perfumes Collection, for which they had previously appeared in the D&G Anthology ad campaign.
Turns out that the folks at Dolce & Gabbana went for an androgynous theme—all five scents are not gender specific. In fact, each of them are named after Tarot cards and represented by a different model.
“We chose Claudia, Naomi, and Eva for the iconic value they have in the minds of everybody,” Domenico Dolce said.
“They are icons, not just for young women but older women too. Sometimes they are better known than actresses. People need to create icons, to see people they recognize.” Stefano Gabbana added. I couldn’t agree with them more!
