Target Recruits Zac Posen to Design Line

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Sales,
Speculation concerning the economic stability of Zac Posen’s label emerged amidst the lay-offs and announcement of a lower-end line. Posen seems to have found a solution that many other designers have opted for as of late: a diffusion line.
Posen is set to collaborate with Target, which is not necessarily a new team-up—Posen previously designed a one-off collection for Target Australia, which he claims to have done for the free trip!
With Rodarte’s Target line hitting stores next month and Jean Paul Gaultier’s collaboration in March, Posen’s will not be available until April 25. Torturous, I know, but at least we’ll have time to recover from Fashion Week!
Excited for Posen’s line, or plain sick of the cheaper products?

Model-turned-designer Jade Jagger says she’s ready to be a grandmother.
The 38-year-old fashion designer, who is in a relationship with DJ Dan Williams, admits it is strange that while many of her friends are settling down to have children, she feels she has passed that stage after having daughters Assisi, now 17, and Amba, 13, so young.
“It’s more likely that I’ll be a grandmother in the next few years than a mum again. I was a very young mum, I’d be happy to be a grandmother.”
Jade is currently focusing on her new Jade Jagger boutique in London and says she is planning to get the girls - her children with ex-partner Piers Jackson - involved.
“My daughters will be my Saturday girls. It’s going to be fun - hard work, but I’m used to it.”
Despite her own wild youth, Jade - who was expelled from school at 16 - insists she is a strict parent: “I don’t think they’re as wild as I was but because of everything I went through, I think I understand them. I’m quite strict with them - I make them do their homework and I’m completely on the case with GCSEs, explaining why it’s important to get good grades.”

Another model catches the designing bug: Coca Rocha is set to launch her own clothing line.
The Canadian supermodel declared on her blog she plans to create her own range, and has even posted a picture of herself sketching some of the garments in her New York apartment.
She wrote on her blog: “I have decided to start my own line!”
The sketch - which shows a bracelet sleeved jacket being worn with a pencil skirt - suggests her collection will be true to her signature style of ladylike sophistication. The 21-year-old also wrote she needed some help: “I need your suggestions on what my line’s name should be. Please leave your comments, and I’ll be happy to look at your suggestions.”

Our favorite Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is set to relaunch her denim line, dVb (now simply Victoria Beckham Denim), for Spring/Summer ‘10 and we’ve got the lookbook here!
Expected to run about $235 for a pair (more affordable than her dress collection, I’ll say), the range includes an array of cigarette pants, boyfriend jeans, as well as jackets and denim skirts. Judging by the photos, Beckham again offers a simple yet sexy and timeless look—quite possibly Posh Spice meets The Row (minus the latter’s expensive prices)?

Jonathan Saunders Already Excited For London Fashion Week

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, News, Sales,
Jonathan Saunders can’t wait to show his Fall/Winter 2010 collection in London this February.
The Scottish fashion designer, who is based in the British capital city, is excited about exhibiting his upcoming collection next year because he “loved” London Fashion Week in September so much.
“I’m going to show in London again in February; I just loved showing here in September. It’s much easier than New York because I’m still based in London, and I always will be.”
Although he couldn’t live in the US, Jonathan is adamant he will return to New York to show his range later in the year to help boost sales: “I will go back to show in New York next autumn. It’s just such a huge country - and nationwide stores like Saks and Barney’s give you such huge reach. It’s good for a business.”
The trendsetter, whose celebrity fans include Thandie Newton and Sienna Miller, has also described the closeness between the new British designers.
“Christopher Kane is amazing at what he does. He and I came to London and set up our businesses without the financial support from our parents that some designers have. We all come to what we do with a love to fashion. Richard Nicoll was in my class at university, Chris was two years below, Louise Gray I’ve known since we were in Scotland. We all support each other.”
Teenage Fashion Designer Twiggy

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Health & Beauty, Models,
Fashion icon Twiggy wanted to be a fashion designer when she was a teenager.
The British model, who became known in the 60s for her wide-eyed, striking appearance, designed and made her own clothes as a youngster and believes her unique outfits and designing skills are the reason she was successful as a model.
“My first memory of knowing exactly what I wanted to wear was when I was 13 - I was a mod and mod clothes were very specific. There weren’t really teenage clothes back then, so I made them myself. That was when I became very aware of fashion. In fact I became so obsessed with clothes that my plan was to go to art school and become a designer. In 1966 that all changed when I was discovered and started modeling. And I think my look had a lot to do with me being discovered. In one of the first shoots I ever did I was wearing bell bottoms in bright yellow jersey with big green petals appliquéd all over them that I’d made myself.”
These days, the 60-year-old beauty is inundated with beautiful, designer clothing: “I’m not a hoarder. I’ve got special pieces that were made for me by people such as Bill Gibb, Barbara Hulanicki and Ossie Clark that I hang on to, but sadly I didn’t keep everything from the 60s. I go through my wardrobe every few months - the family get first choice, then friends and the rest goes to Oxfam. Even so, I do have a walk-in wardrobe that’s full, but then you always fill the space you’ve got. I’m very lucky that I am given some wonderful clothes as gifts - and, if I’m going somewhere very special, my very nice designer friends will lend me something - but at heart, I’m a bargain-hunter.”
Michael Kors: Recession Survivor

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News, Rumors, Sales,
Michael Kors has survived the recession so far because his clothes are “seasonless.”
The American fashion designer believes sales of his clothing line have not faltered during the credit crunch because he has always worked hard to make sure his designs don’t become out-of-date.
“What has happened with the economy has re-enforced the things that I always thought. The idea that something should be unexpected but at the same time timeless, the fact that I think that most clothes should be seasonless. Things have to be versatile.”
However, Michael - who became a household name after appearing on fashion program Project Runway and whose celebrity fans include Michael Douglas - admits those wealthy enough to splash out on designer clothing must make sure they don’t look “obnoxious.”
“It is appropriate to look rich, if you do it without looking obnoxious. If you’re wearing something colorful, keep the line simple. If you’re wearing something ornamented, keep the shape sleek. Right now, to have over-the-top hair and a beaded dress and an over-the-top shoe and a lot of jewelery all at once, it’s too much.”
First Look: Derek Lam Spring/Summer ‘10 Campaign

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, Models, News, Sales,

Model Ginta Lapina seems to be fashion designer Derek Lam’s muse as of late—first was her runway appearance for his Spring/Summer ‘10 collection, then she showed up on his arm to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards last week. Now it would appear as if she’s starring in the ad campaign for the aforementioned range!
“We went back to the beach, but it’s a dreamy world of cream-colored sand, highlighted by pops of color from vibrant clothing and accessories,” Creative Director Doug Lloyd said of the photo shoot.
Shot by Solve Sundsbo at Pier 59 Studio in New York, Lapina looks perfect strewn across the sandy beach in Lam’s fun polka dot print; her updo and make-up further accent the modern take on the 60’s-esque line. If only we, too, could be staring into the dreamy eyes of her onlooker!
