Rachel Zoe Feels Pressure for Clothing Collection

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,
Rachel Zoe doesn't want people to be disappointed by her debut clothing range.
The fashionista -- who made her name as a stylist to the stars with clients including Nicole Richie, Kate Hudson and Demi Moore -- is set to launch her first fashion line, The Rachel Zoe Collection, and is keen for it to live up to expectations.
"I'm a Virgo and I'm more -- I don't want to say negative -- but I'm the girl who thinks no one's coming to my birthday party, no one's buying my clothes, no one's reading my book, no one's watching my show -- that's just how I think. The same applies to this. I don't want to let people down. That said, she made a pointed effort to shake things up. I'd imagine everybody is expecting something from me that's kind of a 70s, uberboho-glam kind of thing, and, you know, very accessorised. And it's not."

Madonna Searching for a New Material Girl

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Models, News,
Taylor Momsen is out of Madonna's Material Girl line, but we knew that was coming, didn't we? Madonna now seeks a new model for her clothing line.
The 52-year-old singer launched her Material Girl range - which is aimed at teenage girls - last year with the Gossip Girl star promoting the brand but, according to a posting on the company's official website, Madonna is looking for a new ambassador. Next to a picture of 17-year-old Taylor an advert proclaims, "Desperately seeking Material Girl."
It goes on to add, "Living in a material world and we need material girls. Looking for the hottest girl on the scene, she is never afraid." The posting encourages visitors to the site to vote for who they think should become the next face of the collection. Madonna worked on the Material Girl line with her 14-year-old daughter Lourdes and admitted the youngster brought much of her own personal style to the collection: "I think this line is absolutely an extension of her taste. We like to combine a plaid or a flannel with a lace or leather with lace or rhinestones. So we mix and match textures and fabrics and elements that are both masculine and feminine."
Tommy Hilfiger to Design for Lady Gaga

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,
Tommy Hilfiger is set to design a fashion range for Lady Gaga.
The brand's company Music and Entertainment and Sports Holdings (MESH) is negotiating with Universal Music Group to develop clothing collections for its entertainment clients, who, as well as Gaga, include Justin Bieber and the Rolling Stones. According to WWD, the first apparel collections will be launched later this year.
Hilfiger launched MESH last July to create lifestyle concepts inspired by the music and entertainment world, with the first venture being Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony's clothing line. As well as MESH, last year the fashion house -- normally famed for its preppy styles -- added a lifestyle label to its brand. The company aimed new line Tommy at 20-something men and women, with the focus being on distinctive handmade details.
"Tommy gives us more flexibility and freedom to do something truly conceptual," Hilfiger said.
Gary Sheinbaum, chief executive officer of Tommy Hilfiger, added, "The way we're going to merchandise Tommy will be distinctive and different, not so formulaic. It will be more of a fun, dynamic experience. The product itself, we feel, is going to be a fresh take on the preppy traffic, done in a fresh, young, cool way. When we look around, we don't see anyone doing this."
Bernard Arnault believes John Galliano is the perfect designer for Christian Dior.
The businessman -- who is in charge of LVMH, the huge luxury conglomerate that owns Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton -- is pleased he chose the eccentric sartorialist to be the top man at the label because he is so suited to it.
"I could have asked many other talented designers to do Dior, but it would not have been the same. Take Marc Jacobs, he has been a fantastic success at Vuitton and he has a proximity to the Vuitton spirit, but I don't think it would have been a success with Jacobs at Dior and the other way around, if I had asked John to do Vuitton, it would not have worked. An essential ingredient in the success of the brand today is the real proximity of Galliano to the talent of Christian Dior."
One of the main reasons Bernard is impressed with John is because he is so down-to-earth: "An essential ingredient in the success of the brand today is the real proximity of Galliano to the talent of Christian Dior. John, in spite of his very exuberant look and artistic vision is very down to earth. He goes into shops and asks what is selling. He is not only an artist but a businessman. Some great designers, when they become famous, lose contact with reality and think they can walk on water. Galliano is not like that."
Crystal Renn Fronts Jimmy Choo

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Editorials, Fashion Designers, Health & Beauty, Models,
While 2010 was a great year for Crystal Renn, 2011 is already looking extremely promising for her, considering her new gig as the face of Jimmy Choo.
Photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Renn is absolutely beautiful -- despite the fact that she's set against backdrops that resemble American Apparel two-toned stockings. The plus-size model seems to have shed weight, but looks like she's down to a normal, healthy size (or could this be more handy work from a thinspired individual?).
Check out the rest of the photos after the jump.

Victoria Beckham Flattered by Mouret Comparisons

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Rumors,
Victoria Beckham is flattered that people think Roland Mouret designs her fashion label. The former Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer often has to contend with reports claiming Roland does all her work for her and while she insists it's not true, she looks at it as a compliment.
"I suppose if people think the clothes are too good for me to have designed them, that's a backhanded compliment. Look, I don't draw, but nor do lots of designers. I tie things around me. I experiment with ideas and I try to work out a way to make everything flattering and make a woman feel beautiful. Oprah Winfrey recently asked me to make her a dress. I must be doing something right."
Although Victoria lives in Los Angeles with her soccer star husband David Beckham and their three sons, her label is based in England so she often flies over to the UK to work on it. "I literally land, go straight to the studio, work till really late, go to the hotel and get up early the next day and do it again. But I don't see this as work. At 18 I was in the Spice Girls. But I wasn't very good, let's be honest, I didn't really, you know. sing. This is something I can do."
Items Du Jour: Anja Rubik Gets Engaged, Lady Gaga Makes Unicorns Sexy

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, News,
-- Victoria Beckham covers February's issue of Vogue UK looking rather bare-faced and less glamorous than usual. Marking her sixth solo Vogue cover, the singer-turned-fashion designer talks about her style's evolution and -- more importantly -- what it's like to wake up next to David Beckham.
-- Hilary Swank is one Oscar-winning actress who actually is down-to-earth: the woman loves a good bargain, and isn't ashamed of -- gasp -- clipping coupons. If only she had shopping secrets to scoring designer labels...
-- Anja Rubik stars in her third consecutive Fendi campaign, shot (of course) by Karl Lagerfeld.
-- Speaking of Anja, the model's agency recently announced her Christmas engagement to fellow model Sasha Knezevic. As if there aren't enough super hot couples to be jealous of.
-- Lady Gaga treated her monsters to a nice holiday surprise with details of her upcoming album. More importantly, she posted a preview of the album art, which features her rocking a unicorn-blazoned jean jacket that reads, "Born This Way." Oh, and she has completely ditched pants -- literally.

Best Dressed Aaron Johnson

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News, Men,
Aaron Johnson has been named the best dressed man in showbiz. The Kick-Ass actor beat fashion stalwarts including David Beckham and Tom Ford to the top spot of the GQ annual Best Dressed list of 2010, and removed Twilight star Robert Pattinson from the number one spot.
British actor Douglas Booth, who has appeared in campaigns for luxury fashion house Burberry, came second in the list, while A Single Man star Nicholas Hoult was third. David and Victoria Beckham's eight-year-old son Romeo was among the notable new entries on the list, coming in at 26, just 10 places behind his father.
Prince William came in at 27 and was hailed by rapper Pharrell Williams for his unique look: "I like it when Prince William goes dandy. He's got all the proper wardrobe when they do the hunting thing. They kill that!"
"Prince William is following in his father's footsteps as a great ambassador for British style," GQ added. However, he was eclipsed by his brother Prince Harry who was a new entry at five. Other inclusions in this year's list include Doctor Who star Matt Smith, Sir Elton John and Simon Cowell.
Sarah Burton Wary of Taking on McQueen Role

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News,
Sarah Burton almost turned down the chance to take over from the late Alexander McQueen. The legendary fashion designer tragically committed suicide last February and Sarah was later named as the new creative director of the brand, but she admits it was a tough challenge to take on.
"I thought, 'How would I ever begin to begin?' Lee's mind was so different to anyone else's. I knew there was no way I could pretend to be him; but I had to ask myself, what did Lee work for? For all this just to close down?"
Sarah, who had been the right-hand aide of McQueen for the past 16 years, also vowed her collections will be true to herself but will pay tribute to the fashion legend and his creations.
"People ask: what's Sarah about? But I've worked here for so long, there's been a big part of me in those collections all along the way. I'm not going to wipe the slate clean. That would be wiping me away. There will always be those McQueen elements, but at the same time, you can never stay still and you have to stay true to yourself. That's what Lee drummed in to me: you have to be able to stand behind your work."

Items Du Jour: Kim Kardashian on Glamour, Lady Gaga Tops Magazine Sales

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, Hairstyles, Health & Beauty, Models, News, Rumors,
-- Lady Gaga scored the highest number of monthly and bi-weekly magazines sold. Not surprisingly, the Rolling Stones cover with a nice view of her rear end sold 245,000 copies -- three times the magazine's 2010 average. Taylor Swift and Blake Lively were the worst-selling celebrities.
-- Elle magazine's parent company Lagardere is in talks with Hearst (Harper's Bazaar publisher) to sell all 40-plus foreign editions of the fashion glossy (sans the original French version) as soon as the end of the month. Lagardere claims it will keep full editorial control, despite whatever happens in the sale.
-- Kim Kardashian covers Glamour in pajamas, which she makes look incredibly sexy, despite what she says in her interview: "I don’t find myself as sexy as everyone thinks. I’m a lot more insecure than people would assume, but with little stupid things." This must explain why she constantly poses nude or in skin-tight outfits.
-- Androgynous model Andrej Pejic stars in the latest Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign, alongside Ginta Lapina. One can actually detect that he's most likely a guy in the photo.
