Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,
Katie Holmes is to become the ambassador of Tommy Hilfiger's new collection. The stunning actress has teamed up with the designer to promote The Promise Collection, which is part of Hilfiger's role as a Millennium Development Goal global leader.
The collection - which features pieces that have been either been produced in Africa or that use locally-sourced cotton - comprises classic Tommy Hilfiger styles but in a bold color palette featuring vibrant African prints. All profits from the range - which will be sold in Tommy Hilfiger stores worldwide as well as online from late April - will be invested back into Millennium Promise, the charity set up to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals, including to halve extreme poverty by 2015.
Hilfiger has already visited Ruhiira in Uganda to see the difference his $2 million donation in 2010 made, while Katie has also visited the rural region, ahead of fronting the campaign. In the campaign, there will be a focus on women's issues by the charity - including working towards gender equality, maternal health and universal education.

Jean Paul Gaultier Loved ‘Natural’ Amy Winehouse

Jean Paul Gaultier loves Amy Winehouse's "natural" sense of style.
The fashion designer's Spring/Summer 2012 couture collection is based on the distinctive look of the late singer - who was found dead at her London home last July - and is surprised few others have drawn on the Back to Black star for fashion inspiration since her death.
"I was surprised when she died that no one in fashion made an homage to her. Her look was fabulous, fantastic - it was unique. Usually, actresses and singers need fashion advice. She naturally had the right make-up, the right earrings - it was a truly a style. She didn't just pick up one part of that look. And I love her voice, I love everything about her."
After the Amy-inspired collection was unveiled in January, the singer's father Mitch spoke out against it, branding it an "insult."

Oscar de La Renta is taking over Nicky Clarke's Mount Street premises to open his first London store.
The New York-based designer will take over the retail space next to Roland Mouret and Jenny Packham's stores, and just opposite the Connaught Hotel, which the hairdresser has occupied for more than 20 years, in a deal said to be worth more than $800,000.
"The rent was due to go up, as it does everywhere. But we felt this was a good time to move - we are relaunching ourselves. Sometimes a brand needs to move to be fresh. If we weren't happy we wouldn't have moved and stayed with the same landlord. We have come to an amicable, compatible agreement. Grosvenor [the landlord] has made the move painless but there certainly wasn't any bribe," Nicky's former wife and business partner Lesley Clarke told London's Evening Standard newspaper.
Oscar, who was born in the Dominican Republic, is rumored to be paying close to $1.6 million for the lease.
Christian Louboutin’s Heel Inspiration

Christian Louboutin decided to become a shoe designer after he saw a sign banning high heels.
The iconic footwear maker says he was inspired to create elaborate heels because dancers were forced to wear flats at the Museum of African and Oceanic Art: "I'd already decided I wanted to design shoes after I saw a sign in the Museum of African and Oceanic Art forbidding high heels. Well, who could resist?"
He then rang the Folies (the French music hall) and announced that he wanted to design shoes for the dancers. "Not that I ever designed a single shoe for them. But I got them coffee - and veal. So much veal. I couldn't work out how they could eat it all. It turned out they were using it to pad their shoes to make them more comfortable," he added.
Christian is famed for the red soles of his shoes but admits his trademark happened by chance: "This shoe arrived back from the factory but for some reason it didn't look quite as good as my sketch. So I used a bottle of red polish to coat the underside of the shoe scarlet. Problem solved.''
Toni Garrn to be New Victoria’s Secret Angel

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Models,
Toni Garrn has become the newest Victoria's Secret angel. The 19-year-old beauty has only previously walked one runway show for the brand - famous for its extravagant underwear - but has now been confirmed as signing a new contract.
Victoria's Secret has long been known for picking the most glamorous and beautiful women to take part in its extravagant shows, with Miranda Kerr - who was voted the Most Beautiful Person of 2012 earlier this year - among those famed for their connection with the brand.
Despite the glamorous surroundings, Miranda - who has 15-month-old son Flynn with Orlando Bloom - claims she is keener on motherhood and loves spending time with her child: "I want to spend as much time with Flynn as I can, and I'd want to put a lot of energy into him. He's the most beautiful thing, the best thing that's ever happened to me. It's wonderful. I'd say what makes me happy is having this little man. I'm the happiest when I'm surrounded by those I love and we are in a natural environment. It's the best thing I've ever done. Becoming a mother puts everything into perspective. You become more comfortable in your own skin."
Jimmy Choo to Work with Rob Pruitt on New Collection

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News,
Jimmy Choo is to collaborate with Rob Pruitt on a new Spring/Summer 2013 collection.
The fashion house will join forces with the contemporary artist - who is known for his array of colorful work - on a capsule cruise collection, and the brand is hoping his influence will lead to the creation of some "very collectable and uniquely beautiful" products.
"We were captivated by Pruitt's energy, his computer screen use of color and the festive exuberance of his prints and materials; there were elements in his work that reminded us in subtle ways of the Jimmy Choo design iconography. We sensed that Rob's twist on Jimmy Choo glamour would yield something very collectable and uniquely beautiful," said Jimmy Choo creative directors Sandra Choi and Simon Holloway.
The collection will feature shoes, small leather accessories and handbags, and it is expected to arrive in Jimmy Choo boutiques and online in November 2012.
Miuccia Prada loves aprons.
The Italian fashion designer says she gets a lot of her inspiration from the lives of everyday women and uses the tradition kitchen attire for her collections because it symbolizes the tough lives some females have to lead.
"I'm interested in the lives of women in general, which is why I love aprons. The apron is a recurring theme in my work because it is symbolic of women's sufferance. It's an emblem of women's despair, their poverty, their passions. I love drama and romance. It's one of the reasons why I love antique jewelry - I like to live the lives of other women."
Miuccia - who works for Prada and heads her fashion forward sister company Miu Miu - has previously said she often wears clothes she thinks are "appalling" and sometimes hates her own signature style: "I get passions, I have to wear something even if I know it's really appalling. It's all about the fantasy of the moment and for about 20 days it's all I want."
Raf Simons insists he won't be bringing a new age of minimalism to Christian Dior.
The Belgian designer - who was named as the fashion house's new artistic director on Monday - says while he will be bringing his own vision to the label he won't sacrifice its feminine history.
"I don't think it's wrong to call me a minimalist. It's wrong to call me a minimalist only. I am also a romantic person. My main inspiration will be femininity...because it's beautiful, endless and permanent. I'm interested in creativity, the evolution of creativity and the relationship between creativity and the times we live in. When I'm married to a house, I will fully embrace its original intention, its original heritage and meaning. I wouldn't go to that place if I only had minimalism in mind. I'm very aware of what the environment is about," he told WWD.
A spokesperson for the designer also confirmed his eponymous menswear line will continue as before, with Simons at the creative helm: "The Raf Simons brand continues with no changes. The Spring/Summer 2013 show will be presented in Paris next June."

Vera Wang is launching her own make-up range.
The designer - famed for her stunning wedding dresses - has teamed up with Kohl's stores to release Simply Vera, a line of affordable and stylish cosmetics. The range includes primers, shadows, moisturizers and lip colors and are all less than $39.50 an item.
Vera says the line is about creating a perfect canvas and adding pops of color, adding, "Make-up should let the real you shine through. Skin is your best accessory."
Last year, Vera - who has designed wedding gowns for the likes of Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian and Mariah Carey - announced she would be expanding her line in 2012 with a range for Kohl's including make-up, skin care, bath and body products and beauty accessories: "As part of my incredible partnership with Kohl's, I will now be able to offer women all over America my own personal regimen for skin care and make-up. It is an easy, light, modern and effortless approach to beauty and creativity. Like fashion, make-up is also transformational. I love the artistry of make-up to accentuate, enhance or create a mood for any time of day or occasion."
Lana Del Rey’s ‘Gorgeous’ Mulberry Bag

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,
Mulberry's Lana Del Rey bag has "gorgeous squidgeablity."
The British fashion house have designed a handbag in honor of the "Blue Jeans" singer, and creative director Emma Hill says it's already shaping up to be a classic:
"We wanted to design a gorgeous bag that reflected Lana Del Rey's style and beauty so we thought the bag should be simple and structured yet relevant for now and recognizable instantly as a classic Mulberry piece. We wanted it to be functional with an uptown twist as Lana is such a wonderful uptown girl herself; its shape implies structure yet it has gorgeous squidgeablity! To me it also had to be very Mulberry, very us so we gave it the classic postman's lock hardware and a great front pocket - for all your bits and pieces! It's a mixture of Mulberry, a touch of Lana's old-school glamour, and total practicality: it's quickly become our best friend!"
