Rihanna Unveils Second Armani Line

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,
Rihanna has captured the "essence" of Armani perfectly with her second collection for the fashion house.
The "Rude Boy" hitmaker has teamed with Armani Jeans and Emporio Armani Underwear once again and the company are delighted with her designs. "Rihanna is a great artist. She has personality, charisma and energy, and has been a pleasure to work with. She captures the young and contemporary essence of Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans perfectly," Giorgio Armani said.
The latest collections from Rihanna - who has been the fact of both labels for the past two seasons - includes four t-shirts, three denim pieces, a boiler suit, shorts, shoes, a canvas bag in two sizes and a leather jacket for Armani Jeans, while there is also a selection of matching sets for Emporio Armani Underwear.
Rihanna has previously spoken of her desire to have her own fashion line, admitting she wants to be taken seriously as a designer rather than simply endorse a range of products: "I'm really pursuing a fashion line of my own. I want to design. "This is also a road that I want to earn it. So I'm working with designers. Designers that I respect, and [fashion] companies that I respect. I want people to really trust me before I just say 'Buy it, because it's mine.'"
Tom Ford doesn't regard fashion as "art."
The 50-year-old designer - who made his film directorial debut in 2009 with A Single Man - always ensures his garments are functional and live up to traditional expectations of design, rather than being experimental or avant garde.
"The film industry is slow and I would lose my mind. You can really only make a movie every couple of years. I love to design. I am a commercial fashion designer. I always design jackets with two sleeves. I don't design jackets with three sleeves or the layers and layers come off like little dolls from Russia. Fashion for me is a creative endeavor but it is not art for me," he said.
Tom also admitted he would've liked to have been a cosmetic surgeon had he not pursued a fashion career: "In another life I would love to be a cosmetic surgeon because it's architectural. You know, you are trying to figure out where the seams go. Can I do it in one piece like Halston? Can you formaldehyde DNA?"

Nicola Formichetti is focusing on his own "dream" after years of styling Lady Gaga.
The 34-year-old designer - who is renowned for making the eccentric outfits worn by the "Judas" hitmaker in addition to being the creative director of Mugler - admits he has had to "embrace" a new side of himself now he is in the process of launching his own brand.
"This year I wanted to focus on my own dream. Being a stylist, you always hide behind a brand, but because of Gaga and Mugler, I needed to come out onto the scene. I had to embrace it," he explained.
Discussing the outfits, the Japanese/Italian creative said he wanted to make new technology because materials have largely been the same for such a long time: "Why do you have a zipper when you can have a jacket that's molded to your body? It'll be very digitally oriented and high-tech. We've been working with the same fabrics, the same techniques for hundreds of years. That's all great, but we need something new."
The first items are due out in 2013.

Nicole Richie Isn’t Fussed by Labels

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,
Nicole Richie isn't bothered about fashion labels. The fashion designer - who is renowned for her sense of style - says she chooses clothes on whether she likes them not by how much they cost.
"I shop at more expensive stores and I also shop at thrift stores. Most of my vintage T-shirts and peasant dresses, they're like $10. There's not a specific store that I go to or any label that I'm obsessed with buying," she said.
Nicole - who is a mentor on reality TV show Fashion Star - says she often falls in love with certain items of clothing and finds it difficult to get rid of them: "Fashion is a form of self expression and it's really about how an article of clothing makes you feel. If I like a dress that I'm wearing, I will wear it until it's falling off of me and someone's like, 'You've got to take off that dress.'"
The mother-of-two recently revealed how she lets her mood dictate her style. Talking about choosing clothing for her role as a mentor on Fashion Star, she said, "It all depends on my mood for the day that I'm filming. I don't have my outfits planned out at all, it really just depends on my mood and where I am on that day."
Betsey Johnson has filed for bankruptcy.
The designer - who showcased her latest collection at New York Fashion Week in February - used the Chapter 11 US Bankruptcy to file her case and although she will remain creative director of her brand, the majority of its 63 stores and 350 employees will lose their jobs.
"The decision to seek protection under Chapter 11 comes after months of rigorously pursuing alternative restructuring arrangements to address Betsey Johnson LLC's cash-flow problems. After exhausting our resources and possibilities, it became apparent that neither a restructuring arrangement with a new equity investor nor a sale of the business enterprise as a going concern outside of bankruptcy was to be forthcoming. Accordingly, our board made the determination that a Chapter 11 store-closing process will likely be the best way to maximise the value of the company's assets, for the benefit of its creditors," said the company's LLC chief financial officer, Jonathan Friedman.
