Alexander Wang to Launch Essentials Range
American fashion designer Alexander Wang is to launch a new clothing line.
The 24-year-old has already had great success with his debut range, T, and will now expand his empire by unveiling a collection of “essentials,” which will be launched later this year.
“After last season we started looking at our carry-over business, what our customers come back for again and again. There’s also this perception that we’re very young. Going to trunk shows, women always say, ‘Oh my gosh, I love your brand.’ This is our way of being more democratic.”
The collection will initially consist of three pairs of trousers, two jackets and a flat-front shirt and will be different from his T line, which comprises luxury T-shirts. Wang, whose first store will open later this year, said, “T is very casual and easy. I don’t want to say the new line is based on tailoring or business attire, but they’re two different focuses.”
Wang recently said his rise to success has been “mind-blowing”:
“It’s been an amazing journey - one I never thought in a million years I’d be experiencing this soon. We’ve been in business since the end of 2004, so it’s all been really recent-about five years. Me, my brother, and my sister-in-law started this really without much guidance or experience. I was in fashion school, my brother has a law background, and my sister-in-law had worked in production, but none of us had a proper fashion business education. So being where we are today and thinking of all the people we’ve met and all the things we’ve been able to achieve has been a mind-blowing experience.”
