Olay Gets Slammed For Twiggy Ad

Twiggy's Olay ad

An Olay advertisement featuring fashion icon Twiggy has recently been caught up in a nasty backlash regarding the rampant photo editing done to the supermodel’s eyes.

Centering on a smiling, nearly flawless face of the 60 year-old, the ad reads, “Olay is my secret to drop dead gorgeous eyes. Because younger-looking eyes never go out of fashion. Olay Definity eye illuminator. Reduces the look of wrinkles and dark circles for brighter, younger-looking eyes.”

Well, British politician Jo Swinson isn’t necessarily convinced that Olay is the reason for such perfect skin lacking wrinkles. The ad offers more evidence for Swinson, who has previously called for pushing a ban on airbrushing in media advertisements.

“If advertisers think that someone as beautiful as Twiggy needs to be so heavily airbrushed, then what hope is there for the rest of us? Experts have proved airbrushing contributes to a host of problems in women and young girls such as depression and eating disorders,” Swinson said.

Proctor & Gamble, the manufacturer of Olay, claims that the “minor retouching” of the ad was in violation of its own policies and had therefore been replaced with one where “no postproduction work in the eye area” was made.
