Balenciaga Replaces Ghesquiere with Alexander Wang

Alexander WangUpon Nicolas Ghesquière's last day as creative director of Balenciaga, the Spanish fashion house has named American designer Alexander Wang will succeed him.

WWD reports that the label has confirmed Wang's appointment and will soon be making an official announcement. Neither Ghesquière nor Wang could be reached for a comment.

Previously, it was thought that Scottish designer Christopher Kane - who has collaborated with Italian brand Versace - would succeed Ghesquière, who held the creative director position for fifteen years.

Wang graduated from New York's Parsons School of Design in 2005 and launched his ready-to-wear eponymous label in 2007. He was the recipient of the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund Award in 2009.
