Big man vs small manOur one-on-one tournament continues this week, with two match-ups that fall within the theme of “David vs. Goliath.” What happens when you pit a 7-footer against a star who gives up more than six inches in height? Could Jordan have taken Wilt or Bill Russell or Kareem in their prime?

First we recap our results from last week: Lebron vs. Kobe and Arenas vs. AI.

Shawn Marion the Matrix The results are in, and we protected our house! And by “we” I mean Dennis Velasco. Our fearless leader managed to hold on and fend off a late rally from Matt Satten to bring home the title!

That noise you hear outside the window is Dennis organizing his own victory parade…

Kobe BryantIt’s over.  Go ahead and breathe that sigh of relief if you won on the final week of the season - THE championship or the consolation title - a win is a win.  For those of you that lost, scream but know that the constant waves of anxiety are now over.  Fortunately, I came out on the winning end of the PFS Experts League, beating SI.com Fantasy Sports Editor, James Quintong.  Sorry, JQ, but someone had to win and I certainly don’t mind it being myself.  I also won the DroppingDimes.com Roto Experts League, barely beating PFS and SI.com’s Matt Satten… by half a point!  That’s 0.5!!!  But enough about me.

Let’s get to the stats and those players that excelled in them (Blue Chippers), gave more production in the various categories relative to where they were drafted (Value Players), and those players that disappointed (Duds) this past season.  I’ll review the big three categories a little more heavily since they’re the main categories for a reason.  Afterwards, I’ll do a quick hit type of deal with treys, steals, and blocks, looking mostly at the positive to end on a happy note.

And that’s all she wrote, folks.

Awaiting My Championship Belt

A special shout-out to Mikki Moore and Bostjan Nachbar for going a combined 13-19 from the floor to keep my FG% afloat.  Oh, and beating the Bulls so my Cavaliers got the 2-seed was an added bonus.  Well done, gentlemen.  A great season all-around - unless you owned Dwyane Wade or Gilbert Areans, of course.  Check you all soon…

It's Linas Time!Alright…Here’s the scoop.  10-teams, standard categories, and a decent amount of smack talk.  After taking home the title in our fantasy football league this year (two titles in three years), I had a lot of people gunning for me in the hoops league.  The draft went a bit awry when a ton of point guards flew off of the board early.  My first picks were Elton Brand and Chris Bosh at 10 and 11, respectively.  But I digress…

After experiencing the utter brutality of injuries to several of my top selections – Bosh, Michael Redd, Rashard Lewis – I managed to sneak into the post-season as a 5-seed.  If I could just make it past the first round, I think I may have a chance to pull off the upsets needed.  Oh, and let me preface this whole thing by saying that in my money league, which is in its third year, we count “Ejections” as a category.  Yes…you may argue that it’s simply luck (or misfortune) that can win that category, but I will come right back at you with the fact that it’s Head-to-Head fantasy basketball and at this point, it’s all luck anyways.

On to the results…

Hey!  Over here!  Remember me!?  I’m the NBA!!

With all of March Madness sweeping the spotlight away from the NBA over the next few weeks, fantasy owners would be wise to catch their opponents sleeping at the wheel and pick up all of the goods.  While the “clearance rack” may be a bit picked over at this time of year, I think there are a few guys that could help you make that last push you need to see some fantasy post season.  On to this week’s recommendations…

Unfortunately my original post yesterday was lost as our servers were being moved. I want to give thanks to Mike Slane of Elevation Mag where our daily work also appears. They were able to post yesterday’s work while our article was still up. It’s a day late, but perhaps the info might still be of value to you fantasy hounds.

The picture has been lost in the transfer…it was Steve Nash driving against Dirk Nowitzki, with the Fig Cap, “So you want to be MVP, do you?

Sorry for the mix-up. This week rather than attempt to drop a rhyme summarizing the box scores, there was such a fantasy hoops bonanza on Wednesday night, that I listed 25 note-worthy stat-lines.
