Warriors at Grizzlies: Fantasy Dream Come True
Posted by Scott Sargent Categories: Editorial, H2H, Pacific Division, Golden State Warriors, Roto, Southwest Division, Memphis Grizzlies,
Randomly checking box scores, as that’s what fantasy basketball fans tend to do from time to time, I can’t help but post about the game that’s still underway. The Memphis Grizzlies are currently beating the Golden State Warriors 130-127…with three minutes still remaining in regulation! If anyone’s able to watch this game, please let me know if they’re playing this game on half of a court or not.
Neither team is exactly shooting lights out, so there’s only one thing that can attribute to such an evening:
No Defense.
(Update: OK, maybe we can attribute it to a few long balls as well…)

Wire to Wire aims to be your waiver wire resource for all of your fantasy basketball needs. It will dive into playing time trends, injury replacements, and even an occasional category specialist – all of which can be found on a typical waiver wire within your fantasy league at any given time.
We’re back from a brief Holiday Hiatus. I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable weekend. We all know that the fantasy hoops waiver wires did. Injuries over the last two weeks have provided us with some very nice options going forward. First, let’s look back to my last edition to see how those recommendations panned out…

Stat’s All Folks: Yao = Best Center
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: H2H, Injuries, Rookies, Roto, Site Features, Talent, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trailblazers, Seattle Supersonics, Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings,
Stat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks. I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.
Note that you won’t always see the superstar player written about in this column, otherwise it would be LeBron James or Steve Nash every week. So, check out who’s bullish and who’s bearish coming into the week.
Statistics are through December 14th – December 20th.
POINTSBULLISH
Yao Ming, C, Houston Rockets
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 4 G; 34.8 PPG; 50.9 FG%; 91.2 FT%
Usually, the top scorers are coming from everywhere BUT the center position. Indeed, the dominating scoring big man in the middle is a dying breed, but Yao Ming refuses to lay down softly and go the way of the Thighmaster. Face it people, Yao is here to stay unlike the Suzanne Somers product and he is undeniably the best center in the NBA. In his four games last week, Yao scored no less than 32 points in each contest and was feeling it so much he even attempted a trey from downtown! He miseed, but that’s about the only shot he’ll ever clang off the rim. And unlike other players that make a living down in the post, Yao hits his free throws allowing him to accumulate points from the charity stripe. Obviously, hold on to Yao like your league championship depended on it because it just might.

Fantasy Impact: Allen Iverson Trade
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Atlantic Division, Philadelphia 76ers, H2H, Northwest Division, Denver Nuggets, Rookies, Roto, Trades, Waiver Pick Ups,
Christmas came early for Allen Iverson owners in the world of fantasy basketball thanks to the Philadelphia 76ers finally trading their disgruntled point guard to the Denver Nuggets along with rookie SF/PF Ivan McFarlin for PG Andre Miller, PF Joe Smith, and two 2007 draft picks. Yes, there was much joy and merrymaking since AI, who had not played since December 6 against the Chicago Bulls, will now take to the hardwood instead of getting the much hated DNP, the very bane of fantasy hoops owners.
So, the question now is, what will be the fantasy impact for the players involved in the trade be? Here’s the Answer, literally and nicknamedly – this is a word, right? Subsequent players are listed in terms of degree of fantasy impact.

BULLISH
Gilbert Arenas, PG, Washington Wizards
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 3 G; 35.7 PPG; 47.9 FG%; 78.1 FT%
What does Benihana and Arenas have in common? HIBACHI!!! Apparently, whenever Agent Zero takes a shot, he’s saying the word “hibachi” with each stroke. This is just another example of Arenas’ quirky ways, but there’s no questioning it’s working, is there? Arenas is scoring a little more than six points more in the month of December than he did in November, thanks to slicing to the basket and getting to the charity stripe almost ten times a game. There hasn’t been this much success being off-kilter since Pee Wee Herman. Arenas’ stock is high, so keep your hands on him.

Rookie Radar: 12.13.06
Posted by Scott Sargent Categories: H2H, Rookies, Roto, Site Features, Talent,
While the NFL has had impact rookies like Reggie Bush, Vince Young and Marques Colston, the NBA isn’t exactly a place where rookies get to shine – due to a plethora of reasons. Sure, we had Chris Paul last season, and even LeBron James in the past, but it’s becoming pretty obvious that there are “none of the above” in this year’s class. However, just because there are no All-Stars this season does not mean that this year’s rookie class can’t help your fantasy team.
Continuing from Zack Francis’ Rookie Radar, I think we may have a realignment on our hands.
1. Jorge Garbajosa, SF/PF/C, Toronto Raptors (Up)
During the last Rookie Radar, Garbajosa was clocking in at about 27 minutes a night. He was making the most of it, frequently chipping in with double-digit points and decent field goal percentage. Since then, the injury to Chris Bosh (knee) has opened up the doors for about five to seven extra minutes a night – with two of his last three games being over 40 minutes. Garbajosa is still putting up buckets, but is also grabbing rebounds and ripping the rock (seven steals in his last three games). He still tries to shoot the three-ball at times, which may do some damage to your field goal percentage from time to time, but right now, I think there are no other rookies worth starting on a daily basis.

Well, there’s a lot going on with the Dropping Dimes team, so it looks like there won’t be enough diversity in the rankings with myself and Sarge being the only ones able to drop rankings. But, have no fear, we’re still the best fantasy basketball team out there (along with the fine folks at Give Me The Rock), so peep the rankings for Week Seven, but first check the number of games for each team.
