Stat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks.
StarburyI’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.

Note that you won’t always see the superstar player written about in this column, otherwise it would be LeBron James or Steve Nash every week.  So, check out who’s bullish and who’s bearish coming into the week.

Statistics are from February 23rd – March 1st.

POINTS

BULLISH

Stephon Marbury, PG, New York Knicks
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 4 G; 23.0 PPG; 46.8 FG%; 78.6 FT%

Marbury has been playing like the Starbury of old, the self-proclaimed “best point guard” in the NBA.  It’s funny how that was statement was associated with Steve Nash who then went on to back-to-back MVP awards.  However, this is not to bash Steph, but to praise him.  In his last four games he’s scored at least 22 points and with backcourt mate Jamal Crawford, the only consistent Knicks guard this season, possibly out for the season, you can expect Marbury’s value to keep rising, especially with the Knicks having a chance at the playoffs thanks to playing in the Leastern Conference.

Michael Redd is back on the court handling businessThanks to All-Star weekend, there is a small sample size of games to draw from, so I’ll tweak it up a bit this week by highlighting players and giving you blurbs for each one.  There will be no suggestions for players to keep an eye on or ones you shouldn’t believe the hype for.  However, I think you’ll live and all will still be well in your fantasy basketball world… unless you own Dwyane Wade.  Read on at your own discretion, but you may need some tissues.

Statistics are from February 16th – February 22nd

POINTS

BULLISH

Michael Redd, SG, Milwaukee Bucks
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 2 G; 27.5 PPG; 43.5 FG%; 72.7 FT%

Much to the relief of the Bucks and many fantasy owners alike, Redd is back on the court and he’s pretty much picking up where he left off.  It was a little bit shaky in Redd’s first game back as he “only” scored 17 points shooting an ugly 7-for-18 from the field, but his performance the following night allayed any fear.  On the second night of a back-to-back, Redd scored 38 points in 40 minutes, including hitting six three-pointers.  That performance shows that Redd may be getting his game legs and wrists back sooner than later.

Stephon Marbury Every so often on Dime Day, “Four Quarters” will feature one particular NBA team, going ten players deep into their roster. Whether it’s a small tidbit of news on the bench-warmers, or an opportunity to give major props to the all-stars around the league, as always we slant it towards the fantasy side of life.

Thanks to Dennis Velasco for the assist this week. He gave me some local tidbits of information on his beloved Knicks. So let’s dig into the Knicks roster and see what’s happening

Chris Bosh is going nowhere but up!Stat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks.  I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.

Statistics are from February 1 - February 8

POINTS

BULLISH

Chris Bosh, PF/C, Toronto Raptors
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 3 G; 30.7 PPG; 51.8 FG%; 87.2 FT%

Next weekend Bosh will be going to the All-Star game for the first time in his career as a starter (Thanks, Mark!).  And looking at the trends for this season and his career, it won’t be the only time.  In the past week, CB4 has flexed his scoring muscle like he owned Hulk Hogan’s 24-inch pythons!  Check the scoring average trend for each month: November – 20.5 in 15 games; December – 20.5 in four games; January – 25.4 in 15 games; and 30.7 in three games thus far this month.  In his last game, Bosh scored a career-high 41 points in a Young Beasts Down In The Box matchup against the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard.  CB4 even showed some clutch game by scoring 31 of those 41 points in the second half to lead the Raptors to victory.  And if you have Bosh on your fantasy team, he’ll do the same for you.  Brother!!!
