Sargent Says: 1.16.07
Despite having yesterday off (you have to love NYSE holidays), I was hard at work as I was trying to balance all of the NFL playoffs, NBA games – and my Eastern Conference leading Cleveland Cavaliers – as well as the sixth season premier of 24! If you have read any of my blurbs in the past, I believe that 24 is the best television show on network television…which of course excludes Sopranos. However, even Tony and Company have never given me a four hour (FOUR!) season premier. Thank you, Mr. Jack Bauer...
I won’t allow myself to spoil the 6AM-10AM window that allowed me to be stuck to my couch like those people that you see on Maury Povich – despite being only slightly overweight, as opposed to clinically obese. Yes, this means that I’m lazier than anything else, but to that I say…It’s Fox TV’s fault.
To you guys that have not seen the premier yet…all I can tell you is that not much has changed in terms of knocking your favorite characters off in premiers – think Tony Almeida. That and if you’re not watching this show in HD, you’re completely missing out.
Hoops? Oh, I guess we can talk about that too…
First, I want to give props to Kimbal from TheFantasySportsRadar. While I still don’t see it continuing once Carmelo Anthony returns, Steve Blake’s first game as a Denver Nugget provided deep league owners with a nice line. How about putting up your jersey number (25) on the first night? Oh, and JR Smith owners can’t be thrilled that he’s coming off of the bench. Buying opportunity, or a sign of things to come? You tell me. Either way, if you own Blake, I’m saying sell high. But maybe I’m just stubborn…
To ride off of Dennis’ Daily and reflect back to an old “Sargent Says,” I mentioned that it would be ideal if we could combine Tony Allen and Allan Ray into one uberguard, obviously named Tony Allan Ray. While that name sounds like it could be one of a 1960s assassin, he would make for one heck of a fantasy stud. But of course, there’s always the “once Paul Pierce returns” bit…
Speaking of combining players…two guys that I would also consider combining are Jared Jeffries and Quintin Richardson. You guys can choose the name. But not because I want to see someone go 4-11 from the floor, but to free up an extra roster space for either David Lee or Jamal Crawford. I’d start both of these guys over the aforementioned, but I guess Zeke likes having them come off of the bench? Who knows.
Lost in the long-range draining by Gilbert Arenas and Raja Bell were the four bombs by the 6’11” Mehmet Okur in the Jazz loss (to Arenas’ Wizards, nonetheless). Maybe he should’ve squeezed out one more, eh? It’s not often that your center leads your team in three point field goals in any given evening…
Damon Stoudamire and Chucky Atkins? Don’t get me started…
Don’t be that guy to pick up Sergio Rodriguez. Unless you’re banking on Jarrett Jack getting into car accidents on the regular, or even Brandon Roy not getting burn at the one, you’re better off going a different direction with your waiver pick-up. And can we just end the whole “Spanish Chocolate” thing? Please?
How about Chris Bosh’s last four games? I haven’t been able to watch any of them…you know…that whole America thing. But I’d love to know if he’s just in the zone, or if it’s a product of a week supporting cast? They’ve won three of four, and a one-point loss to Dallas is nothing to be ashamed of…
It’s good to see Joe Johnson’s field goal percentage correct itself a bit after a very week spell. Now, if we could just get back into that early-season form…yeaaaah, that’d be great…
And on a parting note…I still hate Carlos Boozer, but I can’t help loving what he’s doing for my fantasy teams so far this year…
