So long, JWill
From what I understand, back in the day the Toronto Raptors tried to swing another draft day move so that they could draft both Vince Carter and Jason Williams. That would have been a fun and exciting team to watch, for a couple of years anyways.
The news dropped a few days ago, but here at Dropping Dimes, it still feels within the moment to reflect on Williams and his fantasy game.
Williams never shot well from the floor; his career field goal percentage falls below 40%. 39.6% to be exact. On the plus side, he shot solidly from the line (though he did not get there too much) and he was a serviceable three-point shooter. His best year was probably 2002-03 with the Memphis Grizzlies when he played in 76 games and averaged 12.1 ppg, 8.3 apg, 1.5 3pg and 1.2 spg. Injuries plagued Williams throughout the latter part of his career; in every since since 2003 he missed at least ten games a year.
He won a ring with the Miami Heat and if you blinked even a bit this summer, you might not have noticed that he was part of the Los Angeles Clipper roster when he announced his retirement. I know I had lost track of him until news broke.
He checked in as a lower-tier point guard option with the propensity to destroy your FG%, but he will be remembered for the amazing passes he dropped and the style and swagger he brought to the table when he first entered the league.
