Emeka Okafor’s Blocks and Boards…

Emeka Okafor...Will continue to be produced in Charlotte.

Not to be outdone by Andris Biedrins, the Charlotte Bobcats signed offense-less big man Emeka Okafor to a six year, $72 million deal.  There were a few rumors of a sign and trade, but one look at the rest of the low post players on the Bobcats’ roster, and there was a very slim chance that this would happen.  I can’t imagine that Larry Brown has a ton of faith in Sean May staying healthy this year, and the Ryan Hollins/Nazr Mohammed combo isn’t exactly the most prolific in the game.

Okafor has never been shy with his defensive game, so owners in dire need of boards and blocks will have no issue taking him in the early-mid rounds.  The downside, as always, is the lack of scoring with considerably low percentages.  Oh, and you also have to factor in the point that last year was his first season of 82 games - conveniently during a contract year.  Prior to then, he averaged 55 games per year.

Okafor and Biedrins have a very similar skill set, with Emeka being a few years older and on a significantly worse offense.  But then again, he’ll have plenty of Jason Richardson and Gerald Wallace misses to haul in for the put-back.  If you think he’ll be healthy, snag him by the seventh round or someone else will.
