Dropping Dimes on the Daily—November 13, 2007
There were just three games on the NBA docket last night but there was plenty of action to be found in fantasyland. Even the inaction made headlines as Vince Carter got word on just how bad his ankle injury is and another former All-Star was forced to sit out as well.
Let’s get right to it after this hilarious picture caption.
The Fig Cap: Is This a Grade 1 Graduation?
So Vince Carter is out indefinitely with a Grade 1 ankle sprain (the mildest kind) and that means a heavy dose of Antoine Wright. The Texas A&M product played big-time starter minutes with 41, but proved that he isn’t quite ready for primetime with a line of only 12 points (4-14 FG), 4 boards and 4 dimes. The bigger beneficiary is the established vet Richard Jefferson, who after coming off ankle surgery is finally healthy for the first time in over two years. RJ through up a 32-spot against the Hornets, adding 6 boards, 4 dimes and 2 steals.
A bright spot for Jersey was the first double-dip of the young season for Nenad Krstic who continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered mid-year last season.
Chris Paul is off the heazy, the chain, the hook and the whole kit and caboodle, whatever that means. All we know is that he’s regained his stud form after an injury-plagued down year last season. CP3 led his Hornets to victory with 27 points, 7 dimes, 6 boards, 3 steals and 3 3PM. Expect to see plenty of double-doubles with Paul dishing to Peja for easy trifectas in transition (Money had 4 3PM last night).
In the Cavs game, combo guard Larry Hughes idiotically got ejected after just four minutes of action arguing a non-foul call. To say the start of Hughes’ year has been disappointing wouldn’t be doing the word “disappointing” any justice. On the flip side, Bron-Bron continues to operate at warp speed after bursting from the gate. James had 27 points in last night’s contest, but it was draft class mate Melo who stole the show. Anthony finished with 22 points, 9 caroms, 6 assists and 2 thefts in the blowout win.
The biggest news though was the breakthrough game J.R. Smith had after sitting out the first three games of the season to suspension. He might have vaulted himself into the starting SG spot with 7 threes on only 8 attempts for 29 points in 23 minutes. He rounded out the effort with 4 rebounds, 4 dimes and 1 steal. If you need threes, recognize that Smith will jack them unconsciously.
Lastly, the Kings/Jazz game was a clunker since Brad Miller was forced out of action with an injury, but will be back for tonight’s game. With no one to clog the middle, Carlos Boozer roamed free for three quarters before sitting out the fourth in the runaway victory. The Booze’s fantasy owners drank in 31 points (13-18 FG) and 10 boards. Frontline teammate AK-47 was everywhere again with 15 points, 8 boards, 8 helpers and 3 swatations. It’s still early, but he’s looking like the fantasy comeback player of the year.
