Dropping Dimes on the Daily: March 15, 2007
Unfortunately my original post yesterday was lost as our servers were being moved. I want to give thanks to Mike Slane of Elevation Mag where our daily work also appears. They were able to post yesterday’s work while our article was still up. It’s a day late, but perhaps the info might still be of value to you fantasy hounds.
The picture has been lost in the transfer…it was Steve Nash driving against Dirk Nowitzki, with the Fig Cap, “So you want to be MVP, do you?
Sorry for the mix-up. This week rather than attempt to drop a rhyme summarizing the box scores, there was such a fantasy hoops bonanza on Wednesday night, that I listed 25 note-worthy stat-lines.
25. Ron Artest, SF, Sacramento Kings: 7-14 FG, 2-4 3pg, 5-8 FT, 21 pts, 1 reb, 7 ast, 3 stl, 6 TO Why do people take fliers on Artest? He can score, shoot the three, pass and is always good for steals. Just be careful with those turnovers.
24. Chris Bosh, PF/C, Toronto Raptors: 7-13 FG, 8-9 FT, 22 pts, 8 rebs, 4 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk There is nothing wrong with an all-star doing exactly what he is supposed to. Case in point, Mr. CB4, who leads his team to a win against a divisional opponent (the Knicks), and gets about 20 and 10 with good percentages and a nice overall line.
23. Jorge Garbajosa, SF/PF/C, Toronto Raptors: 6-10 FG, 4-7 3pg, 4-4 FT, 20 pts, 4 reb, 2 stl Garbo must be one of the most added/dropped players of the year. Yesterday his shot was true, as he sank four from downtown.
22. Sean May, PF, Charlotte Bobcats: 9-17 FG, 2-2 3pg, 20 pts, 12 reb, 2 ast, 0 stl, 0 blk Currently an injury replacement of sorts for Emeka Okafor, the former MOP of the NCAA tourney was nice last night. Those two treys were two cherries on this chocolate sundae.
21. Ben Wallace, PF/C, Chicago Bulls: 4-5 FG, 10 pts, 11 reb (7 oreb), 8 ast, 1 TO, 2 stl Big Ben gets props for his usual yeoman work on the glass; offensive boards is a fun category to include (try it out!). But the eight dimes on one turnover garners him special mention, even with no blocks last night.
20. Hedo Turkoglu, SG/SF, Orlando Magic: 7-16 FG, 0-4 3pg, 8-11 FT, 22 pts, 8 reb, 4 ast, 4 stl Surprising production is always well-received by fantasy owners. The lack of outside shooting is compensated for by the four rock swipes.
19. Mehmet Okur, PF/C, Utah Jazz: 6-15 FG, 3-5 3pg, 6-6 FT, 21 pts, 12 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl 0 blk Three moneyballs from a center-eligible player…sweet.
18. Carlos Boozer, PF/C, Utah Jazz: 14-24 FG, 1-3 FT, 20 pts, 7 rebs, 3 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk Boozer brought a little something extra to the table last night. A solid contributor in FG%, points and rebounds, he finished with great numbers in the other categories too.
17. Antawn Jamison, SF/PF, Washington Wizards: 12-20 FG, 1 3pg, 27 pts, 8 rebs, 2 stl, 1 blk As this list will show, I have much respect for big men who can contribute treys to your team’s cause. Jamison is the poster boy of this kind of player, but he gave fantasy owners some hustle last night too.
16. Josh Smith, SF/PF, Atlanta Hawks: 6-16 FG, 0-2 3pg, 7-11 FT, 19 pts, 6 reb, 0 ast, 4 stl, 3 blk Stealing from Sarge, J-Smoove continues to be J-Huuuge. Sure, he was a black hole last night with no assists and usually he is good for a three-pointer or two. But how can you beat those steals and blocks?
15. Andrea Bargnani, PF/C, Toronto Raptors: 7-14 FG, 4-6 3pg, 18 pts, 5 rebs, 2 stl, 3 blk Il Mago deserves serious consideration for Rookie of the Year. It seem like forever since a rookie contributed this much to a winning team.
14. Jerry Stackhouse, SG, Dallas Mavericks: 12-20 FG, 5-6 3pg, 4-5 FT, 33 pts, 2 ast, 1 stl The Mavs-Suns double-overtime game was simply outstanding. Stack led the bench brigade with a ton of points.
13. Kevin Martin, SG, Sacramento Kings: 7-15 FG, 2-4 3pg, 10-12 FT, 26 pts, 7 reb, 6 ast, 2 stl This K-Mart is still open and bringing in the goods.
12. Andre Iguodala, SG/SF, Philadelphia 76ers: 4-16 FG, 10-10 FT, 1 3pg, 19 pts, 5 rebs, 6 ast, 1 stl, 3 blk Iggy might be a top 10 keeper league player right now, as he is the perfect combination of hustle and flow.
11. Al Jefferson, PF, Boston Celtics: 10-15 FG, 3-6 FT, 23 pts, 9 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk Sometimes a sleeper like Al Jeff blossoms into a keeper.
10. Rudy Gay, SG/SF/PF, Memphis Grizzlies: 8-19 FG, 2-3 3pg, 6-8 FT, 24 pts, 4 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 3 blk, 1 TO The “slash” aka multi-positional players can play a nice role on fantasy teams. Gay has the potential to be a stat-stuffing fantasy all-star. Granted, Memphis and Boston are in the Oden-Durant sweepstakes, so both Jefferson and Gay would be affected by those additions.
9. LeBron James, SF, Cleveland Cavaliers: 11-17 FG, 4-7 3pg, 3-6 FT, 29 pts, 6 reb, 4 ast, 3 stl Four treys and three steals are well above ‘Bron’s season averages. He shot a nice percentage…except from the line, of course.
8. Gilbert Arenas, PG, Washington Wizards: 10-22 FG, 5-8 3PG, 10-13 FT, 35 pts, 5 rebs, 8 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk It was a pretty typical night for Agent Zero, but that does not make it any less nice, or should I say, niiiiice.
7. Dwight Howard, PF/C, Orlando Magic: 13-16 FG, 5-7 FT, 31 pts, 15 reb, 2 ast, 2 blk Dwight shot an insane percentage from the floor, cleaned the glass like crazy and swatted away two Spaldings.
6. Dirk Nowitzki, PF, Dallas Mavericks: 11-28 FG, 0-2 3pg, 8-12 FT, 30 pts, 16 reb, 6 ast, 0 stl, 1 blk No treys and the team loses last night. Could the MVP be slipping away too?
5. Stephon Marbury, PG, New York Knicks: 10-19 FG, 5-10 3pg, 6-6 FT, 31 pts, 5 reb, 9 ast, 2 stl Compile a list of second half all-stars, and Starbury makes the team in a jiffy. He was deadly from behind the arc.
4. T.J. Ford, PG, Toronto Raptors: 5-12 FG, 8-8 FT, 18 pts, 4 reb, 18 ast, 2 stl 18 and 18? 8-for-8? Yo, T.J., Chinese New Year was a month ago, but you are certainly still bringing prosperity to your fantasy owners and the Raptors. Well done!
3. Elton Brand, PF, Los Angeles Clippers: 13-23 FG, 11-12 FT, 37 pts, 10 reb, 5 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk I put Brand in the top three on his 12 trips to the line, and making 11 of them.
2. Amare Stoudemire, PF/C, Phoenix Suns: 16-19 FG, 9-12 FT, 41 pts, 10 reb, 1 ast, 2 blk, 6 TO Did you look at this line and focus on the six turnovers? Then you are definitely a glass-half-empty type of person, which is too bad.
And the top stat-line of the night…
1. Andrei Kirilenko, SF/PF, Utah Jazz: 0-0 FG, 0-0 3pg, 0-0 FT, 0 pts, 2 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk Just kidding.
Really…
1. Steve Nash, PG, Phoenix Suns: 11-25 FG, 2-6 3pg, 8-8 Ft, 32 pts, 8 reb, 16 ast, 1 stl, 5 TO That clutch three that sealed the comeback…perfect from the line…brought the Windex like a power forward…16 assists. He was awesome last night.
Peace.
