The Fig Cap: Recipe for disaster…and an ice pack
A typical Thursday evening in the Association that brought us three games – two were close contests, and the other one…not so much.
The blowout took place in Dallas, with the Mavericks laying into a Dwyane Wade-less Heat by a 12-spot – and that was with the Heat outscoring the Mavs 37 to 19 in the fourth quarter, so it was a lot uglier than the score would lead you to believe. I’m talking like Chris Kaman material.
Shaquille O’Neal lead the way for Miami, putting up 17 points, eight boards and a block with his typical 5-10 from the line. James Posey was the surprise contributor off of the bench, going for 17 of his own, 15 of which was from long range.
It still wasn’t enough to counter Dirk Nowitzki’s 31 points, 11 boards, six assists and two blocks – including a flawless 9-9 from the line. His partner in crime this time around was Jason Terry who had 21 points, five boards and four assists. Devin Harris also had a very quiet 17 points, on a very efficient 6-8 from the floor.
A short-benched Cavaliers team hosted the Chicago Bulls that featured a lifetime achievement scoring night from Ben Wallace. Big Ben added 14 points to his 19 rebounds, seven blocks and two steals. The Fro was definitely in full effect. Ben Gordon clocked in to pour in 16 points, seven boards and six assists.
The lone contributors for the Cavs were LeBron James (29 points, 7 rebounds, three steals, two assists) and Larry Hughes. Hughes put up 20 of his own, but on a terrible 9-26 from the field. Stop shooting jump shots, Larry!
Drama central in D.C. last night when the Kings thought they had tied the game with a John Salmons three-pointer, only to be overturned by the video review. Wizards win, 109-106. Despite the losing effort, Mike Bibby put up 30 points with six bombs and three steals. Ron Artest’s 32 points led the way, and Brad Miller remembered how to play center by pulling down 13 rebounds on top of his eight points and two blocks.
Caron Butler helped the Wizards out with his 25 points and five assists, while DeShawn Stevenson (“Mr. 50”, as he’s labeled himself in regard to his field goal percentage) put up 21 on 8-14 shooting.
The line of the night, you ask? Gilbert Arenas. 43 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, three steals, three bombs, and 16-17 from the line. Well done, Gil.
Catch you on the rebound…
