Dropping Dimes On The Daily - 11.12.07

After a heavy weekend of games on Friday and Saturday night, the action was light with a six-game slate, but there was plenty of drama in fantasyland in head-to-head leagues. We’ll let you in on who the difference-makers were, both good and bad, because even though it’s a fantasyland, things don’t always go your way.
Fig Cap: I’m looking up.
The Wizards/Hawks game wasn’t the prettiest thing to watch, but Marvin Williams’ stat line was easy on the eyes. The 21-year-old appears to be putting it together in his third season with his best line coming last night: 20 points (8-10 FT), 12 boards and 6 assists. On the other hand, rookie Acie Law IV had a clunker with 0 points in 14 minutes. Still the most painful thing about the game is seeing Gilbert Arenas struggle with his shot coming off the knee surgery. He shot 5-15 FG and put the zero in Agent Zero from distance with 0-4 3PM.
Yao Ming continues to roll as he broke off another Great Wall-sized line with some outstanding marksmanship going 13-15 FG and 8-8 FT for 34 points, 8 rebounds, 4 dimes and 3 blocks. Emeka Okafor fouled out thanks to Yao but not before registering a double-dip with 12 points, 11 boards, 3 steals and 2 blocks in the loss. Mek even drained 4-5 FT – that’s a big deal when you’re shooting 42.9 percent on the year. Gerald Wallace continues to struggle in the SF spot and finished with just 10 points and 5 boards.
Udonis Haslem is cranking his game up as The Diesel continues to come to grip with his eroding skills at his advanced age. U had his second straight double-double with 16 points and a matching 16 rebounds. That’s 2 more points and 7 more boards than Shaq, though the Big Fella did swat 3 shots to Haslem’s goose egg.
With Zach Randolph out of action as he deals with the loss of his grandmother, David Lee got the start and did as expected. Both Knick and fantasy fans have been clamoring for more of the double-double machine but Zeke inexplicably keeps his minutes in check. Unleashed yesterday, Lee had problems finding his shot but still managed 14 points, 14 boards and a block and a steal each.
Coming off the best game of his young career, Eazy Yi Jianlian had a respectable 13 points, 7 boards and 3 blocks against Tim Duncan and the defending champion San Antonio Spurs. Manu Ginobili continues to sparkle off the bench thanks to a summer away from international basketball pouring in a game high 21 points in only 18 minutes in the blowout victory.
The best rookie on the floor for Seattle against Detroit was Jeff Green, not ROY favorite Kevin Durant. While the second coming continues to misfire on his jumpshot, Green hit 5-10 FG and 7-7 FT for 17 points and 8 boards in just 24 minutes of burn. Leading the way for the Stones was Rip Hamilton with 32 points, 3 3PM and 4 steals as his torrid pace stretches on after missing the first two games of the season. Antonio McDyess decided to show up with 15 points and 15 boards, but it was against poor Robert Swift who has been terribly dreadful since returning from his knee injury. P.J. must be mesmerized by Swift’s stacked double ponytails of pumpkin-colored hair. By the way, this pic desperately needs an update.
Sam Cassell turned back the clock for the second time in three games with 28 points and 5 dimes in 38 minutes against Cleveland in the late game. The minutes bested his season-high by six minutes while Brevin Knight only saw 13 minutes of action. Clippers horse Corey Maggette outproduced LeBron in six of the nine categories, yet the general public will be happy to know that James’ team snagged the W. Like I care who got the win. Fantasy is the new reality, general public. Get with it already!
