Dropping Dimes On The Daily - 11.07.07
Dropping Dimes On The Daily is all about the team looking at the previous night’s performances and mentioning those that did pretty goodly and those that did pretty badly. Goodly is a word, right? Anyway, this will be a quick look around the league, so don’t expect a ton of text, just some daily fantasy basketball goodness!!!
The Fig Cap: Peja takes on the world. OK, just five guys from L.A.
10 games on the dockett last night, plenty of them providing us with some huge numbers.
Amare Stoudemire missed another game (are you getting worried yet?), but Boris Diaw wasn’t phased. The big man started at center and went for 15 points, 11 assists and a steal. For comparison purposes, Steve Nash only had seven dimes. Shawn Marion also played well with 16 points, 11 boards and two steals. Eight Suns went for double-figures as they pulled away from the ‘Cats early.
Speaking of ‘Cats, point guard Ray Felton had 12 points and five turnovers before leaving with a knee injury. Reports say that it looked pretty brutal, but an MRI shows no structural damage - which is code for “He should be OK.” Jeff McInnis will go back to the bench, assuming Felton returns as planned.
The Knicks came to play last night with four players going for at least 20 points. Zach Randolph went for 22 and 17, Eddy Curry put up 24 and eight, Jamal Crawford knocked down 25 with eight assists and three treys, and Stephon Marbury finished it off with 21 of his own, as well as nine dimes and two threes.
Allen Iverson’s 32 points and four steals definitely helped owners, while his teammate Carmelo Anthony put up 24 points, nine assists a steal and a block.
Jason Kidd barely missed another triple-double with nine points, nine boards and 12 assists. I could’ve done without the six turnovers, however.
LeBron James was right with Kidd, but a little more productive by going for 24 points, 14 rebounds, nine dimes and three blocks. Think Zydrunas Ilgauskas owners miss Anderson Varejao? The big man went for 22 points, 13 boards and two steals in 38 minutes of play. Big Z was lucky to get 30 minutes a night last season.
Boobie Gibson dropped five treys en route to 22 points, but that was nothing compared to the record-breaking night of Peja Stojakovic. The oft-injured forward was on fire last night, dropping 10 treys - five of which were in the third quarter - finishing with 36 points. Chris Paul was obviously on board with this, dropping 19 points of his own as well as 21 assists - nine in said third period. These two lines trumped that of the Lakers and Kobe Bryant: 28 points, six boards, seven assists and three blocks.
Line of the night? Despite Peja going nuts, I have to give it to Josh Smith, barely missing a 5x5. J Smoove finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, five steals, four blocks and two treys. Talk about filling up the stat sheet.
As always, your recommendations are welcome.
Leave ‘em in the comments. Peace.
