Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 6 - Baron Davis

The Fig Cap: “Hey, B-Diddy, you’re wearing your old uniform, bro.”
“WhatyoutalkingaboutChris?!?!?!?”
Baron Davis will be taking the Boom Dizzle down from NorCal to SoCal as he will no longer sport his beard in the Yay Area, but instead in the City of Angels where no doubt his ability to drain buckets (and miss them like he was Stevie Wonder), drop the rock (bathroom humor not intended), and be a threat on the floor will no doubt thrill the fans at the Clip Joint! Yes… I’m talking about the Los Angeles Clippers and, believe it or not, it’s totally possible for their fans to be thrilled. Seriously. Why are you laughing?
Despite the controversial exodus of Elton Brand to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Clippers have to be happy with the addition of the Baron as he will be a significant upgrade from Brevin Knight, easily one of the scariest looking players in the league, the injured Shaun Livingston (pulling for you!), and Mark Jackson. Oops, sorry, wrong decade. In all seriousness, Davis has the talent and charisma to get the second class fans of professional LA hoops to get excited about the team. I’m not dissing Clips fans, but there is that other Los Angeles team called the Lakers that play in the same building and they made it all the way to the NBA Finals last season. However, it is easy to root for a winner, so I’ll give Clips fans props for their perseverance and high toleration for pain.
However, to somewhat cushion the loss of Brand down in the box, the Clippers acquired former Denver Nuggets defensive stalwart, Marcus Camby to man the middle. Of course, he won’t have the offensive skills of Brand, but Camby is one of the best overall defenders in the league, having won the Defensive Player of the Year award just a couple of seasons ago. And he actually improved on his blocked shots average this past season! In any case, since Camby was acquired for nothing, literally NOTHING, along with the presence of Chris Kaman still sticking around, Brand’s defection won’t be too much of a heartbreaker.
Afterall, the Clippers have B-Diddy in their city!!!
And considering how much Davis will control the rock and be the primary offensive weapon for the Clippers, B-Diddy needs to be on your team as well… if you don’t mind going all in with your cards since Davis does have a durability issue (since the 2002-03 season, Davis never played more than 67 games until last season when he played 82). But, if Dizzle can repeat last season’s games played, he will no doubt earn first round value. Can you deny this from the Baron when he has the easy potential to score 20 points, drop eight dimes, hit two bombs a night from downtown, and swipe the rock twice a game? Okay, ignore the percentages for argument’s sake (because I want to win)!
In all seriousness, Davis can be a high-risk/high-reward player depending on where you draft him. But, feel comfortable in choosing him in the middle of the second round, especially if you get a Dirk Nowitzki type player in the first round as it is in this mock draft. Nowitzki’s high percentages will balance out Davis’ ineptitude in shooting the ball, but the combination of points and threes-made from this duo will be very high. Considering the assists and steals on B-Diddy’s part, and the boards and block from Dirk, this team is looking good in an overall sense. And that’s important for any fantasy basketball team.
