Dropping Dimes Mock Draft Blog 2007: Round 4, Pick 8: Raymond Felton
Posted by Scott Sargent Categories: H2H, Roto, Site Features, Southeast Division, Charlotte Bobcats, Talent,
Team “Five” has been fortunate enough to land two solid frontcourt players in Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan, giving them the freedom to address the backcourt in back-to-back rounds. With Chauncey Billups getting nabbed in the third frame, we’re going to bolster the guard position even more by adding a player bound for a breakout.
Round 4, Pick 8: Raymond Felton, PG/SG, Charlotte Bobcats
At first glance, you’re likely thinking “Wait…isn’t Felton their point guard?” To you I say, “Why yes, he is.” But thanks to Brevin Knight last year, Felton was deemed a shooting guard at times and was given dual-guard eligibility. With Brevin Knight moved on, and Jason Richardson brought in, Felton will be the full time point guard and has a new weapon to add to his arsenal of dime-dropping.
After a solid 5.6 assists a game in 2005, Felton increased his dishes to a solid 7.0 per night in 2006. That’s 7.0 assists a night in 36 minutes played. The Bobcats only other option at point guard this season is the 50-year old former-every team guard in Jeff McInnis. While they’re both from North Carolina, that’s really the only thing they have in common as McInnis hasn’t seen more than 18 minutes a night in three years.
Last season, Felton was chosen near the end of the fifth round, where Dennis was nearly spot on with his assessment, and even dropped a little Star Wars Nerd Lingo.
Adding Felton to this team will not only help out on the weeks that Tim Duncan decides to tank some free throws, but gives us solid guard production from any back court slot on the roster. If this team adds another center-eligible player along with another point guard to play the “G,” it may be very tough to beat when it’s all said and done.
