Dropping Dimes Mock Draft Blog: Round 2, Pick 4

Iggy Throwin' It DownWith Dwyane Wade getting selected in the first round, this team is supplied with a solid base of roto success.  While I could’ve chosen to draft a big guy, several of them were just selected with previous picks.  I could’ve chosen another guard, but Jason Kidd and Chris Paul just fell off of the board.  Thus, we’ll look at a younger guy that provides one of the better well-rounded games in the fantasy arena.

Free Throw Percentage? Check.

Alright, you’re hired.

Andre Iguodala, SG/SF, Philadelphia 76ers

We’ll cut to the chase.  Last season’s Mock Draft Blog saw Iguodala fall to the seventh selection in the fifth round.  Alvin’s selection of AI2 listed the former Arizona Wildcat as a “solid contributor.”  If anyone drafted Iggy as a “contributor,” they likely saw him contribute his way into the top-25 of the fantasy hoops world by season’s end.

Iguodala’s rookie season saw flashes of brilliance, but he was relied on more for his 1.7 steals a game than anything else.  2005 saw an increase in nearly every statistical category, including his points per game where he registered over 12 a contest.  Then came the Allen Iverson trade in 2006.  It’s amazing what one player leaving a team can do for a player.

2006: 18.2 pts, 5.7 reb, 5.7 ast, 0.6 3pm, 45% FG, 82% FT, 2.0 stl, 0.4 blk, 3.4 to

You may be saying to yourself, why not add a player who can drain more threes to complement D-Wade?  To you I say, I would rather add the best player available that still shows a ton of upside on a very week team and attack certain categories later on than reach for a specialist in the second round.  Who else is going to produce on the 76ers?  Willie Green?  Ask yourself why Shareef Abdur-Rahim was a second-or-third-rounder when he was in Atlanta.  Precisely.  When surrounded by outliers on both ends of the age spectrum, it’s players like Iguodala that will flourish.

The addition of Iguodala to Wade will already provide a solid start in several main categories – including steals, as these two players should be able to steal about five or six rocks a game.  Sold.
