I’ve said this many times before and I’ll say it again, several times throughout this post if I have to, but you do not draft Tyson Chandler because he has a cool name; you draft him for his free-throw percentage… I’m obviously kidding.  So, what do you draft him for? Check it out after the jump.

Round 4, Pick 10: Tyson Chandler, C, New Orleans Hornets

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I just stated an obvious flaw in Chandler’s game in regards to his ineptitude at the charity stripe.  However, at least the numbers aren’t Diesel-like, right?  So aren’t you glad I got the negative out of the way, so we can focus on the positive and productive stats now from Mr. C?  I’m like a drill sergeant breaking you down to build you back up, but let’s make a deal - I won’t get Gunny Sergeant Hartman on you and you don’t get all Private Pyle on me… you hear me maggots?

Geez, I’m so tempted to lay down some quotes from that movie, but I won’t.  TEMPTED!  But, I won’t.

Let’s check the three-year trend:

2004-05: 80 G; 27:23 Min; 49.4 FG%; 0.0 3PTM; 67.3 FT%; 9.7 RPG; 0.8 APG; 1.5 TO; 0.9 SPG; 1.8 BPG; 8.0 PPG

Well, it’s obvious that Chandler liked playing in New Orleans as he had his best season in his short career during his first year as a Hornet.  Look at those rebounds he grabbed last season!  It’s almost as if he was cleaning the glass for him AND Eddy Curry, his former Chicago Bulls teammate AKA “He’s that tall, but can’t board better?” But looking at the minutes played per game, we knew Chandler could put up those types of numbers as playing about three quarters a contest, as opposed to two quarters, would make a difference.

Another thing outstanding about Chandler is his proficiency from the field.  Nice.  Sixty-two percent is so ridiculous, it’s like Paris Hilton having a singing career!  But since she did have one, however brief (there is a divine being out there), Chandler making buckets at that high of a rate is possible.  And I bet he shoots about 60% again before Hilton has another bonafide hit single.

But to get back on the negative tip again… Chandler actually shot about ten percentage points higher from the field where theoretically every shot was challenged than he did from the FREE-throw line.  Maybe David West could put his hand up and challenge every single one of his shots at the line.  Just saying.

In any case, it’s very much possible that Chandler gets better this season and has great potential in becoming a double-double dude.  Add his above average ability to log in about a couple of “get that shiznit out of here"s (AKA blocks AKA rejections AKA what I had to suffer through all of my high school life from every single girl that I had a crush on because stupid me was a fat geek that spent way too much time playing Dungeons & Dragons in my friend’s dining room on the weekends) and you have yourself a great C1 to add to your team.

Relative to this fantasy team, Chandler solidifies the boards and blocks he and the Matrix (who as of this writing is disgruntled with his “real” team, the Phoenix Suns) bring to the table.  Chandler will also make up for Davis’ shortcomings shooting from the field, but he will definitely bring down the FT%, which probably puts this team somewhere in the middle of the pack or even lower.
