Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 4, Pick 11

Antawn JamisonAntawn Jamison is riding shotgun to Gilbert Arenas in the Washington Wizard’s offense, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s like riding in the passenger seat of a Ferrari, so who the heck cares who’s driving! Last year, Antawn stepped in as the secondary scorer with the departure of Larry Hughes to Cleveland. He was close to joining the exclusive 20-10 big-man club averaging 20.5 points and 9.3 rebounds last year.

Round 4, Pick 11: Antawn Jamison, SF/PF, Washington Wizards

Let’s look at Jamison’s average in his second year at Washington:

‘05-‘06: 20.5 ppg, 1.8 3-ptmpg, 1.9 apg, 9.3 rpg, 1.1 spg, 0.2 bpg, 1.7 topg, 44.2 FG%, 39.4 3pt%, 73.1 FT%

Last year, Jamison set career highs in rebounds, steals, and 3 pointers made, which he hit 1.8 of per game while shooting a decent percentage from beyond the arc. Prior to last season, Antawn’s best season in shooting the 3-ball was in ’04-’05, when he made 1.0 3pt./game at 34.1%. So let’s hope that Antawn’s new found range is a positive trend and carries over to this season. His inside/outside game does hurt his FG%, which is not stellar compared to other PFs.

Last year, Jamison surprised fantasy owners with 39 games in which he had 10+ rebounds, including 7 out of the 39 games with 15+ rebounds. Jamison improved his steals averaging 1.1 spg but still remains a poor shot blocker at 0.2 bpg.

Will Jamison break down with the extra games played for Team USA during this past summer?  Well, he can be considered an ironman player, missing only 14 games in the past 6 seasons, in which all 14 games were in the ’04-’05 season.  He may be slow out of the gate by the extra games, but he should not miss any regular season games.

Other team members
