Weekend Reading: The Cape, The Simpsons & Machine Of Death
I'm sure that we're all happy that the new Spider-Man musical finally has an ending, so with that in mind, let's see what else we can celebrate:
Cape: Are you watching The Cape along with me? If so, you might enjoy Jonah Weiland’s interview with series creator Tom Wheeler as much as I did.
Vaughn: My pal J.C. Vaughn (who co-writes Mighty Samson with Jim Shooter, as well as wrote & created Vampire, PA that was published by Moonstone and is also Executive Editor & Associate Publisher of Gemstone Publishing) got himself interviewed over at Comic Book Interview.
Sit: Can you imagine what would happen if someone at DC or Marvel kept insisting that putting a chair on the cover would grab someone’s attention at the LCS? Some people in book publishing must really love chairs.
Lomax: A nice interview with creator Don Lomax of Vietnam Journal.
Bongo: I missed this, but over at the Bongo Comics blog, there’s an interview with Nina Matsumoto who says “I'm responsible for those bizarre manga-style Simpsons comics.”
Tor: Over at Tor.com, you can free-read Deathless, a promotional comic by Catherynne M. Valente and Amy Houser, done to promote “the highly-anticipated new standalone novel by award-winning speculative fiction author” Catherynne M. Valente. The book is due from Tor at the end of March. The promo comic adapts Chapter 3 from the upcoming book.
Hi-Yo!: If you love the Lone Ranger, Hake’s is putting together an auction of cool stuff, including some nice original art. Scoop has the details.
Death: Rod Lott at Bookgasm takes a look at Machine of Death, declaring it “unlike anything you’ll read this year. That’s a good thing, people, provided it doesn’t kill you.”
Everett: If you have some old Bill Everett (creator of Sub-Mariner) comics, Blake Bell would like to hear from you.
Cut!: Beau Smith talks about reprinting older comics in a Director’s Cut format ala DVD. I’m all for it!
And finally, Ryan Sohmer and Kevin Stokes take a look at some of the story points that DC's new event, Flashpoint, might reveal in another installment of the webcomic The Gutters.
Now use your internets responsibly!
