Was it because he was paid more money than any of the other stars in the film?  Was it because director Jon Favreau was not happy with his performance?  Was it on-set antics?  These are some the reasons given in a story from Yahoo Movies as to why Terrence Howard will not be in Iron Man 2.

I was shocked when it was announced that actor Terrence Howard would not be reprising his role as James “Rhodey” Rhodes in Iron Man 2.  I was shocked… but happy.  I HATED Terrence Howard’s performance in Iron Man.  As a film Iron Man is just about flawless.  From the performances of Robert Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jeff Bridges; to the special effects; and the fight scences.  It was a great movie, but if there was one negative, it was Howard.

I have not seen “Hustle and Flow” which was Howard’s Oscar-nominated performance.  Maybe he was good.  I don’t know.  In “Iron Man,” his performance seemed wooden and his voice annoyed the hell out of me.  He sounded like a girl.  I just didn’t believe that he was a lieutenant colonel in the army.  With Downey’s performance, you believed he was Tony Stark.  You believed he was a genius.  Also, the unsung hero of this film is Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane.  He was an amazing bad guy.  You really hated him.  Paltrow was also great.  Very sexy and she played well off of Downey.  They had great chemistry together.

With the depature of Terrence Howard from the franchise, we now have an actor I admire in Don Cheadle.  I’ve seen him in a bunch of films, but his stint on “ER” as a medical student with Parkinson’s Disease in 2003 was memorable.  Very well-acted.  Check it out.

I wish Howard the best, but I just don’t think he did a good job in Iron Man.  I’m looking forward to seeing Iron Man 2.  We’ve seen some good comic book movie sequels recently in “Spiderman 2”, “X2”, and “Dark Knight”.  Lets hope they continue the trend.
