DC Comics Review: Final Crisis #6

“Final Crisis” is garbage.  There I said it Grant Morrison fans.  I can’t believe there are people who defend this man and say his work on “Batman” and “Final Crisis” has been great - they’re not.  But that’s not why we’re here.  We’re here for a review of the 6th issue of the “Final Crisis” mini-series which features the final fate of Batman.

For those of you who haven’t read it yet, do not read any further.  I can’t review this issue without revealing that piece of information.

If you’re still here then you’ve probably read the issue and know that Batman is dead. I’m actually a bit shocked because I really thought Morrison was going to live by his promise and not kill Batman off. Although, maybe he did live by his promise and he didn’t kill Batman in “RIP,” but decided to kill him instead in “Final Crisis”. Whatever the case may be, Batman’s death come at the hands of Darkseid - the main villain behind “Final Crisis”.

After I finished reading this issue, I went on to some comic message boards to see what fans felt about the big revelation in this issue and someone gave an interesting theory. This person stated that Batman may come back to life in the final issue of the series. I think there’s a possibility that that could happen.

At the beginning of the issue, Superman is talking to Brainiac 5. Brainy shows Superman something called the Miracle Machine. The machine is capable of turning thoughts into reality. It’s possible that Superman will use this machine to bring Batman back to life in the next issue or sometime after “Final Crisis” happens. I’m a bit upset that Batman is dead, but I seriously does anyone really think Batman will stay dead?

At this point in time, I could care less about what happens in “Final Crisis”. Compared to “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” “Final Crisis” should not even be mentioned in the same sentence. The first Crisis was a classic. A great story from beginning to end. A story that one could follow and understand. Sad and heart breaking moments that saw the death of Supergirl and The Flash.

I’m not sure what the DC universe will look like after “Final Crisis”. I’m sure it won’t be as big of deal as the world that existed after the original Crisis when the multiverse was destroyed and a new single universe was reborn. DC has failed with this big event. Although I’m not as big of a fan of Marvel Comics as I used to be, at least their last big event “Secret Invasion” was a good story and ended with the great climax of Norman Osborn and his crew looking to take over the world. “Final Crisis” is poorly written and hard to follow. The idea of Darkseid taking over the universe is a good and simple plot, but Morrison fails in his execution of this idea. From issue to issue I care less and less about what happens. Now that I know what has happened to Batman, I’m not going to pick up the last issue. I’ll flip through the last issue at my local comic store The Phoenix, but if I don’t see a resurrected Batman, I won’t bother. I also won’t be bothering with Grant Morrison’s run on “Batman” when he returns. I’m sure I won’t be missing much.

Comments:

even though i have hated the first 5, mainly because they make no sense, at least in 6 they did what happens in everyother mini-series. In the next to last issue they start to bring all the various thread together building toward the big climax in the last issue. So even though the first 5 parts sucked 6 sucked less.
